Better to keep it on than cancel, hope the changed course still gets you good bang from your buck from the VFs Chris.

Probably better to happen in that sort of race where people aren’t expecting PBs than on a flat fast course I suppose. Hope you have a good day Chris

Hope you got round OK Chris. My mate did 3.49 and described it as 'testing'. From him that roughly translates as ridiculously hard. He loved it, I suspect I wouldn't!

Well that was insane, crikey definitely the toughest marathon I've ever done, and it wasn't even a marathon in the end!!! Some epic lows - I bonked, but just as I saw my wife with supplies, some epic highs - the recovery between miles 22-25, the VFs worked for me, worked against me - no good in running water on steep hills with lots of leaf litter, it was like speed skating. Furman both worked and failed. It worked in that I felt fresh and strong throughout, but failed as my legs just obviously way under seasoned, and were so painful it was unbearable at points. Rain from half way, torrential rain for last 2 miles. Course apparently was half mile short, but I will count as a marathon because the amount of climbing (over 2500ft), it makes it over a marathon distance. Time irrelevant really, 3.35, it was one of those, one in a lifetime, you had to be there and do it kind of moments, delighted to have been part of it.

Most importantly it shows a route-map to sub 3.15, I can see how it can be constructed now, I haven't been able to for a long while, but it's given me ideas by tweaking things around, and underscores how important getting the fuelling strategy right is.
