Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Don't think I would do 7km. Probably won't do you any harm but hard to see any gain from that IMO. YMMV.

I plan to do 2 miles the morning before. Might do a tiny section at MP depending on how confident I’m feeling by then.

You’re on much higher mileage than me Baz but I struggle to see the benefit of doing very much this week, incl the parkrun.

There was a time when I would take three or even four rest days before a marathon.

I reckon stopping completely for several days is probably a mistake too. I had a bad experience way back when rowing, though it was originated by injury. Had some time off and straight into a test which went badly (injury wasn't a specific problem in the test). Have always avoided this scenario since then. I think it might have been a bit more than 3-4 days though, probably a week.

But really I suppose I'm just doing the normal thing of reporting my own opinions as facts...

Haha Vazo - similar for me (I'd doing nothing for 2-3 days). Considering 2 miles the day before, was ok before the last 20 miler.

I did a slow parkrun the day before, just following P&D, so I had to add 0.5 mile warm up and cool down. Does no harm at all. Dunno if there's any benefit though!

I like a really easy <3 miles or so the day before if logistics allow, I find it relaxing.

I ran/walked the 2-3 miles to the start of Valencia last year, I felt it loosened/warmed me up a treat.

I've both run before and not run for 2 days before and don't think it makes much difference. I do think you need to get out and about a little rather than sitting down or lying in bed all day. One of the best things I did was tiling the kitchen floor, which I had to do as the new kitchen was being installed on the Monday. Relaxed moving about is the key, without too much time on feet.

Ive had a look back to see what I did in the past. My first 2 marathons logged on here in 2008 & 2009 I had 3 rest days before raceday and I am pretty sure the 2 before that were similar.

I then looked at my 7 x sub 3:05s and found:

- 2 x 2 rest days before
- 4 x 1 rest days before
- 1 x ran the day before

So in summary I will not be running Friday or Saturday :-)
