Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Good nuggets in WW's 2 posts on previous page. I'd add a argument #3 from my experience/mindset - I didn't do any sessions in taper that I thought might give me a bad result / confidence knock. Anything that suggested hitting a certain interval pace (that I might miss) - I either did something MP instead, or turned it in to strides (so no real measurable result).

Glad to hear you're recovered Jovi.

LOL @ Chris - maybe my experience last time around was utterly exceptional in the sense that I just rode a crest of a wave of confidence all the way though. I'm definitely not that tough normally!!

I've just taken up my Berlin deferred entry so that will give me something to focus on over the summer!

Really paid bucket loads for last night's efforts. Thought I was feeling a bit stiff, but 10 flat miles today nearly wiped me out, with HR to match.

Definitely not currently bullet proof!!

Me neither.

Today 8 miles on flat at marathon pace. Running in 21C heat, averaging 154 HR (max 176), slightly on high side, but the old Vivoactive packed up and as many are finding out the Vivoactive 3 consistently measures long, (ie, you run .97/.98 when you've actually run a mile), which is an absolute pain in the arse, so I was probably running slightly faster and in hotter conditions than next week, and slightly less recovered state, so it's looking OK. Colour me hopeful rather than truly optimistic, but mood has turned from "heap of shite" at least to "let's do this and see".

I appreciate that we all use at least slightly different strategies to skin the marathon cat and so some may find this interesting and I’m sure it will be too simplistic for others.

The idea that volume is the key rather than “quality” certainly chimes with my approach. I guess I like this idea because it’s the running I enjoy!

The ‘Tanda’ calculator comes up with my closest predictions yet. Might be worth a look too, whatever type of plan you use.
