Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Interesting - The Tanda calculator definitely punishes slower miles though. It's semi-useless to me, it has me outside 3.30 (which may yet well happen, I rule nothing out, I'm not arrogant to think any marathon time is guaranteed, but so far ALL of my flat marathons have been under 3.30) based on my average pace, but a lot of my average pace is spent standing around at junctions waiting for club mates, or jogging back very slowly to them, so I actually don't know my average pace. And of course it then becomes a kind of fartlek - faster rest faster rest is not true average pace. I run some of my recovery runs deliberately slow to stay at HR, and again that is punished.

nice link SS, thanks for sharing. That's the mara predictor that I have used over the last few years now, in a slightly different form it's here:

runcambridge.org.uk

I'll admit that I've semi promised myself from obsessing about this calculator in the future as as Chris points out it's heavily skewed towards pace and has defo made me focus on running all runs quite quickly. That seemed OK in the past but it's left me completely knacked at times this time around. I think I need to move to focussing on the pace outcomes of key sessions only.....

Yep, I can see that as a danger WW but there’s still some ‘headroom’ for me I hope.

Also that pace as the key/only dimension ignores alternative ways to get to the achieve your results Chris.

As I say, I warmed to it because it seems to give me encouragement that my preferred route of marathon training still presents me with scope for improvement.

Yes definitely. Anyway I'm going to approach my marathon quite differently next week, have blogged on it.

I look forward to that read tonight Chris.

That calculator based on my hm predicts 2:55 but on training suggests 3:09. Both are nonsense. 2:59 to 3:02 is a more realistic range based on past experience.

I had a bit of a poor run yesterday. It was very hot and a bit windy which is my excuse anyway and I am happy with that.

My raceplan is pretty much set in my mind now and provided I stick to that I believe I have a reasonable chance. Big risk is in not following the plan.

that should be no risk at all Baz. You know what you’re doing.

Can’t quite believe the weather forecast. Not raced in good running weather so far this year, this could be a 1st!

What’s the thinking on a run the day before race day? I mostly don’t but have had an easy 4-5 before some recent marathons. I will be resting on the Friday but was considering a bimble round a parkrun that’s close to where I am staying.

I usually jog around 2-4km, nothing remotely strenuous. I might jog a pr but not if it involved running any distance there and back.

Step away from the park run Bazo - have a wee lie in instead of being up at the crack of dawn. Remember park run is 9am in foreign lands....... You can do an easy run anywhere ;)

Love race week!! Excited for Stoosh's attempt at the Highland Fling this weekend (and hoping I don't go into labour with the excitement!!)
