Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Baz - Hard to do but if you had no goal and just went with your current shape, what would be a hard but doable marathon? 2:59? 2:58?

Spr. If I already had a sub three under my belt I would probably start a bit faster and take advantage of the downhill first three miles. Whether I have it in me to run a faster time who knows.

I still have in mind being on pace at Chester and picks g pace up after about 21 only to regret that afterwards

I might not get another shot at sub three and don’t want to blow this.

Whatever you choose for pacing Baz, you're experienced enough to know what is best for you.

Any interesting nutrition strategies going on? I still haven't found any compelling arguments to contradict my view that if you're going to use gels, then get them down yourself early at well planned intervals (for me that was every 25 minutes / 3 miles) to make sure they were being digested at a time that would make them useable during the race, rather than taking them onboard only when you feel you need them. That allowed me to stop taking them at about 18 miles when my GI system didn't want to be dealing with digestion, safe in the knowledge that I had got 5 gels-worth of energy replenished already.

FWIW my first sub-3 was off a 1:29:19 and 1:30:27 split. If I'd gone out in 1:29:40 would I have managed it? I dunno. I have only once achieved a flatter split of +0:05 when I should have gone negative but got greedy and overcooked it a bit.

Now I'm starting to feel silly for not going out in 1:21:30 at Manchester. I did break 1:22 in a raced HM after all :-)
