Take it easy FR. There's always another race but screwing up your health is not a good idea. If you're forced to take it easy then you could take time to soak up the atmosphere. Some folk would be well chuffed with 4 hours.
KS - that sounds a lot more exciting than my 20 mile run through the lanes and beside the canal.
360 - might try some Yasoo 800s again today - i've done 8 at 3:15 so far, those last 2 are going to be HARD!
I still have this bloody cold, which, although not so extreme, is getting me down a bit. Ran the streets last night coughing, spluttering, spitting and scaring everybody in my way so some fun was to be had from it

Hope everyone's training/preparations are going well - from what I've been reading from the reports those who have been racing recently appear to be on course to go sub 3h15m - many, I'm sure, will be closer to 3hr - da iawn/well done - dal i fynd/keep it going!
I've finally entered the Snowdonia Marathon (cheers BR for pointing it out - I ws getting worried!), but that isn't till the end of October. In the absence of doing any 10mile+ races before then decided to to see how training was progressing by doing a brisk hilly 22.8miler last week. Surprised/really pleased myself by doing it under 2h24m - ave just under 6.2min mile pace with ave h/r of 76%maxWHR - Fetch predicted marathon time 2h46m. Run was not quite as hilly as the Snowdonia marathon course, so I'm still targetting 3-3h15m for the race - I really don't want to crash and burn on my 1st marathon!

I came down with a bit of a cold at the start of last week and had to take a couple of extra rest days, but fortunately it didn't affect Reading HM too badly, as I got a 3 minute PB of 1:33:31. From that Fetch predicts a marathon time of.....

Just did Bath Half in 1:32:02. I slowed down a bit when I realised I wasn't on for sub 1:30 so not so bad, but still not on top form for Paris in 2 1/2 weeks. This and my last 20 mile still predict 3:15 though so given a good day might get it.
John Bach - i think you'll stroll it. I would guess the best strategy is to aim for 3:15 for the first 20 miles then blast it at the end.
KS - 3:15 should be on for you too.

I won't be going for a sub 3:15 at FLM, and probably not even a sub 3:30 either, because I have missed so much training through injury and illness. The illness was diagnosed just over 2 weeks ago as iron deficiency anaemia, and not a virus as I had thought at first. In a way this is good, as I have been taking ferrous sulphate tablets for the last two weeks and there has been a massive improvement in my running in that period. In another way it might not be so good, as I have still to find out why my iron levels are so low, and hopefully I might find that out next Monday when I go to see the doctor.
My last few runs are almost on a par with where I was at the same stage before Abingdon, where I got a 3:28. That makes it tempting to aim for a sub 3:30, but I have missed so much training that I think it could be asking a bit much. I could use the strategy of taking it steady for the first 20 miles and then trying to blast the last bit if I had it in me, but the problem with that is that I have often felt really good at 20, or even 22 miles, only to start struggling in the last few miles.
How much time could you save if you speeded up over the last 6 miles? In my opinion, unless you have been taking it incredibly easy over the first 20 miles, you will be doing well to speed up by more than 30 seconds a mile having already run 20 miles. That's a saving of just 3 minutes, which probably isn't really a lot when you're running 3 hours plus, anyway.

Looks like I'm going to be closer to 3:30 than 3:15 too.
All the injuries and illnesses have caught up with me. I ran Wilmslow half at the weekend, not knowing whether I'd finish in 1:30 or 1:50. In the end it was 1:38 and a bit of a wake up call as to where my fitness is at the moment. I'm still injured a bit and not sure about fitting in the 2x3 hour runs that I feel I desperately need before London.
Still, I may be on for Palma marathonin October, so it's not all bad.

My training over the last few weeks and the weeks to come looks like this:
Week 13 - 41 miles Week 14 - 36 miles Week 15 - 28 miles Week 16 - 12 miles
Sunday LSRs Week 13 - 18 Week 14 - 18.5 Week 15 - 8 Week 16 - race
Definitely having done enough long runs this time, so I'll be hoping for sub 3:30 rather than 3:15 and trying to enjoy the day instead.
