I don't have a track either B - I do mine using a Garmin-type device and public roads - a bit hazardous but as along as you stay alert and have good brakes if needed...

KS, Good stuff - might try this Yasso thing myself (with the Garmin) - out of interest, how long was the recovery between each rep? |

Ideally the recovery for Yassos is supposed to be the same amount of time as the rep, so 3:15, but unfortunately my device can't cope with that, so I either have to do 800m hard 800m recovery however long that takes, or 3:15 hard 3:15 recovery and however far I get. Last night I went for the former, which is obviously the slightly easier option and not genuine Yassos as you get a longer recovery time, but I didn't mind that because I am racing on Sunday so didn't want to push quite to the max anyway. Next time I'll do the 3:15s option and try and get over 800m for each hard phase.

I usually do intervals on the road too. The combination of running fast, glancing at the garmin for distance, dark nights, pedestrians and cars make these sessions pretty scary. I do the 800m, followed by a recovery in the same time. Seems to work ok. |

Managed a 20 mile race in 2:26 so now actually believe I can do 3:15 at Paris. Unfortunately I've got a nasty cold at the moment which is hampering the training. How is everybody else doing?

Hope you soon get over the cold BR and that it doesn't affect your training too much. Belated congrats on the 20miler. I'm basically putting in the miles at present (mainly @ 70%maxWHR), though I put in a bit of extra effort for an undulating 10.6miler yesterday - done in 65mins with an ave h/r of 79%maxWHR. Didn't really push it and felt comfortable throughout and pretty good at end of run. Still heard nothing re the Snowdonia marathon - not sure if it is going ahead - may do Anglesey Marathon instead at end of September. |

Progress is going well ![]() Did 20 mile race in 2:33 the weekend before last, which isn't quite 3:15 pace but it was on a tough course, with extra Camelbak weight, no taper and as my first 20 mile run. So hopefully there is more to come... Last weekend I did a 26 mile multiterrain race about 50% of which was offroad. Lots of mud, lots of fun ![]() 400m reps last night at 1:32, which according to Mcmillan is *just about* in range for 3:15. I struggle to go flat out in speed work because I do it on public roads and there is a safety issue, so I'm sure I could go faster on a track... |

Thanks JB, might try to blow the cold away in the gym this afternoon. The Snowdonia Marathon entry is on nationaltrust.org.uk looks like its now sponsored by First Hydro. Anglesey might be easier to achieve 3:15 on, I would be looking at more like 3:45 for Snowdonia but I'm not as swift as you JB. KinkyS - looks like everything is going well. I think you're right at time on your feet. Although I did feel quite comfortable at the end of the 20 miler I'm still not sure how the last 6 miles would have gone. You're right about speed on a track, in my youth I managed a 2 minute 6 second 800m, oh to be 17 again! Right where is the Lemsip Max Strength? |
