20 mile training event coming up on Sunday - and then Ashby 20 (where I'll be planning to do 14 miles at MP (even tho it's an undulating course)) There's only 46 days 'til Race Day

I guess someone on this thread had to have their hopes of a sub 3:15 dashed, but I wish it wasn't me.
The chances of a sub 3:15 at FLM must be about zero now. I don't think I'm being negative or over-reactionary, but my training has been severely hampered by illness and injury and although I seem to be clear of that now, I am struggling with just over 6 weeks to go. I struggled to do 17.5 miles in 3 hours yesterday, having to walk some of the way. There's no way that I can improve that to the extent of managing 26.22 miles at under 7:26 minutes per mile in the time that is left. To believe otherwise would just be stupidity, I think. I might try for sub 3:30 again, but my fitness levels are nowhere near as good as they were at this stage before Abingdon, and I only just managed 3:28 there.
Looks like I might talk myself into entering Abingdon again this year.

You've had your share of bad luck FR haven't you?
I wouldn't write it off just yet though. There's time for 3 or maybe 4 (at a squeeze) long runs. And you'll know from the past how much fitness improves in the last month or so before the marathon.
But you can look at it the other way and consider FLM as the build up to bigger and better things in October.

FR - glad to hear that you are no longer injured. You still have time to improve on your fitness, and if you don't manage to break 3.15 you may still break 3.28
I'm still hopeful, but keep having flashbacks to last year when my hip was injured and I hobbled the last 8 miles. It still isn't 100% better and there are times when my left leg goes numb and I'm reduced to a hobble once more.

I'm going backwards in my training at the moment. Picked up another injury (this time my ankle) so I missed my long run yet again this weekend. Hopefully I'll be fit enough for Spen at the weekend, otherwise I'm going to have to seriously re-assess my target.
Mind you, I did do 7x800s in 3:10ish last week. Not quite the full set, but getting there.

23 miles done yesterday. Sloooooooow, finished in 3:30 but I'm blaming the mud, the stiles, the gates, the evil headwind, the bog I accidentally jumped in and the part where I lost the path and started careering madly through knee length grass and startled geese

I said in my last post that I seemed to be clear of injury and illness now, but it seems that I am a long way from being fit at the moment. I have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia and put on 400mg of Ferrous Sulphate tablets per day.
I wanted to do a 20 mile run on Sunday, but was struggling right from the start, and through sheer doggedness, I managed 10 miles at a very slow pace before I had to give up exhausted. I have to have a complete rest from training this week, because I am on a course with an early start and late finish every day (ironically a GP exercise referral course), but that will leave me just 5 weeks before FLM. Wouldn't be surprised if I end up settling for sub 4:00 (or worse :-()
