Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Good luck on Sat Puma. Flatter is good but ofr me its surface that matters more for shaving off time. Dulwich is the way to go for fast times as is Cardiff or Brighton.

Kingston for me this weekend. If I can get nearer 20 again than my two recent fast attempts at 20:40 (both off road courses) then that would be good.

PG when is the next Battersea 5k? I keep trying to get to one but stuff gets in the way!

Most of a 5k is aerobic so getting mileage in the legs on a weekly basis is the most important aspect with a quality interval session once a week. Quite a bit of it is mental too. Once I did my 1st sub 20k I did loads immediately after. Good luck to all. Perhaps have a look at my training log to see some of the paces ran in training in the build up to my sub 20 minute 5k's.

Good luck all as it's a great target :-)

Puma how did it go?

Despite the continuing biomechanical issues I was a bit faster today. 20:00 by my watch (so still 45 secs slower than my pb), good to be back in the right sort of order though. Depending on timing fairies I may be at my third fastest time ever (I've run a lot in the 20:0x area).

If I can sort my issues over the next few weeks I can train enough to get my fitness back but right now my limiter is lack of training most definitely. Mile 2 was far too slow!

Curly was mile 2 far too slow because the 1st mile was a bit too quick.

No not at all. Back on pace in the third. Just switched off a little (Kingston goes round this funny little loop on grass where you cant pass anyway so I kind of coasted through it rather than getting into a better position earlier on and pushing on if that makes sense).

Good news is my massage has sorted out some my issues and its not Achilles (just some of the lower leg muscles). All started from my back apparently.

Final parkrun time was 19:59 ;) onwards from here to try and regain fitness to get back to 19:14 sort of times :)

Finally cracked it! 19.52 at Rushcliffe on Saturday on my 109th attempt. It was a complete mudbath as well so very chuffed. Thought I was going to lose my breakfast with 200m to go but just about held it together and avoided any potential timing dramas with a decent finish.

Cheers Curly – you were spot on with the track recommendation. I’ve only done a few sessions but they gave me the confidence that I would be able the pace required. Can’t believe that after 2 years of near misses I’ve finally done it.
