Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

400m is worse...you think you should be 'sprinting', but if you were you'd only make it half way. Lactic city come the final straight!

That brings back memories, 400m at school....having wobbly leg syndrome as I cross the line, didn't even know the word pacing existed haha. Tactic was 100m race, then try and gasp round he remaining 300m.

But still, 5k is worse than both 3k and 400m, the pain is just long enough where those littpe voices appear whispering in your ear saying "stop, have a little walk...your not fit enough", im sure they only turn up after 1.5 miles...

I did 800m at school, ow ow ow! Since then, I've never run any race shorter than 5k which is already a pretty painful experience. Odd hobby indeed!
I know these voices, Gary. My favourite distances are half and full marathons, the pace is much more relaxed and I usually enjoy them until about the final 3 miles when it's also getting quite painful, but that's a different kind of pain. I seem to able to cope with that better than with this 'I'm going to be sick in a minute, no really, I can't make it to the finish' feeling I get in 5ks.

22:38 at this morning's parkrun, 55 seconds faster than a fortnight ago (23:33) and only 28 seconds outside my PB on a flat course. Training is going well apparently and I didn't even push too hard into the 'red zone' so there is still room for more improvement in future 5k runs.

I'm coming back. 2015. Yes I've got historic sub-20s in the locker and I know the pain, but I need a PB goal and this is my favourite distance.

I'll do a Parkrun at some point soon to see what my current training status is.

Up your mileage by 5% for a month. Continue this for three months. Add speed sessions, Tempo runs and a 15 mile long run at the weekend to your programme and I can assure you will achieve a sub 20.

bigb I've done loads of sub 20's. My PB is 18:42. I'm slowly working back from an injury.

FINALLY I have done this after two years of knocking on the door. 4 weeks of intense 400m sessions at track and marathon training and I smashed it with 19:33. Typical ;)
