Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Twenty four and a half for me round Wimpole this morning and I was really, really trying. I know it's not flat but that was stupidly hard.

After a heavy shower, the course was a bit sticky and also slippy, but 21:12 felt relatively comfortable. Perhaps a sub-20 attempt next Summer?

Hi Guys n Gals,

Just saying hello as think this is my first post on here, though have been reading this thread for months!

Just some background - Going sub-20 in a parkrun was a little goal of mine when I started running in April this year, and I managed to do it this weekend at the Eastbourne parkrun which I'm quite chuffed about. Time was 19:49, though Garmin had it as 19:38 (!?). Found having a pacer helped a lot, and he helped me do fairly even'ish mile splits (6:16/6:24/6:17).

If it helps anyone my secret was....(drum roll)...running alot! and then some more! no real structure, just lots of 4-6 miles runs, running consistant 30 mile weeks seemed to do it.

My profile isnt exactlty up to date on Fetch, I tried a few weeks ago but prefer Endomondo/Garmin, but heres a link for my training log on endomondo it helps anyone:

endomondo.com

Anyways, just want to say thanks to all the contributors to this thread as found it really interesting to see some of your journeys.

Happy running :)

Gotcha re fetch/Garmin, it was more the fact I just want to keep my logs in just one place as have friends who use endo, my brain can't cope having another place as well! Might swap over next year though.

Great running guys, Gary and FR!

For me it's still a long way to go. My city finally has a parkrun but it's a very undulating course; people not living in N-Wales would probably say hilly. ;)
I started with 24.23 a fortnight ago, with still heavy legs from the last marathon. A week ago I clocked 23.33, so 50 sec faster. Last Saturday I volunteered there to have a break, so the race is on again in 5 days. I hope to get close to 23, maybe break it. I don't quite expect another 50 sec but training is going well at the moment so 30 sec improvement is feasible.

I think, if I manage 21 on this course, (at some point in summer?) the 20 will be within reach on a flat course. I think that a 5k every weekend (potentially, I don't think I'll run more than 2-3 a month) will help me to get closer to the pace required.

tipsku - from 23mins I think you can take 30 secs to possbly 1 min off your PB roughly every 3 weeks down to about 20mins quite easily, so I reckon by Feb you'll be close. If its a hilly course you could do it every week but just not race it, be a nice hilly/tempo workout if you squeeze a 2 mile wu/wd either side.

Thanks for the encouraging post, Gary.
The start is actually 2 miles away from my place and I run there and back so I get the 2 miles wu/wd every time I do it. I'll probably do it 3 out of 4 weeks but race it only once a month. I like the course, it's a good workout.

That's exactly what I do, my local parkrun is about 3miles away, so I jog there and back. Back home at 10am with a nice 9 mile workout in the bag, job done :-) I also only do this once a month or so, more of a evening runner myself.

5ks are tough though arnt they? 1st mile is usually OK, but miles 2 onwards are torture! An odd hobby really..why do we do it lol.

Going to try do a few more sub 20s (if I can face the hurt!), then try and crack 19 next Summer.

3ks are worse though, the first mile is crap and the second .86 feels much worse and 3 times as long.
