I think different people have differing definitions of doing nothing. I love downtime and it’s important to me to have lots of unscheduled time. We had 125 days away in 2022, 144 last year. This year we are on 58 days (we stayed home in the early part of the year to be near a friend who was dying - like some others here who have lost people, at 57 he was far too young. ) |

I'm loving my current job but also very emotional and semi-burnt out. Luckily I change roles this month to an easier role (same money). I will be prioritising myself.

It's been handy being retired as I'm down at dad's clearing his house with is hard work. Big house with lots of clutter. Knowing I haven't sacrificed 2 weeks of my holiday entitlement is such a good feeling. I will be more than ready for my cruise at the end of September.

@Hibeedeb many congrats and welcome to the clerb 👏 It's great to hear other folks attitudes and experiences to common retirement probs, so thanks thread. We are currently downsizing but a bit anxious about a smaller house. Any views here welcome from those who have done it. I also like the idea of everyday as a holiday, even if actual holidays aren't quite as exciting as they were when I worked. In terms of volunteering I took up a Trustee role at my running club. It has been good for 4 years but I just stepped down. Time to try something new, but not sure what.... Currently on a short break in Italy. Parkrun tourism which we love. |

"Scope to downsize" is filed under "unclassified" in our retirement spreadsheet. Or would be, if I was a spreadsheet person. At the moment I like knowing that the kids could boomerang if they needed to.

As we did during our week holiday 2 weeks ago, tonight we were sat on the riverbank overlooking a beautifully serene river view and wondering how it will feel on any given day to say shall we do a couple more days because we ‘don’t’ have to go home tomorrow. I honestly can’t wait and I’m more coming round to sooner than later.

I'm quite keen to try a Cunard cruise but I doubt I will find enough cash down the back of the sofa. We may downsize to release some cash eventually. That would do it. We will have to do some serious clearing out if we downsize. We have so much stuff we've accumulated over the years.

That's the best bit about downsizing, having a really good clear out. Felt really good when we did it (twice)
