@TheScribbler neither of us like clutter and we regularly have clear outs. I always feel lighter when I have got rid of stuff. We don’t have kids or anyone who will clear our stuff for us, but also why should anyone leave their crap for their kids to sort? It’s really hard, we did my inlaws house, it was a full time job for weeks! I know it’s easy for me (being more minimalist than hoarder) but my tips for people who want to declutter are: start with an easy room like the bathroom, clear out all the old half used bottles etc, sort the cabinet, get it all looking good and the positive vibe will help move on to the next room. If you don’t have much time focus on one drawer, one cupboard, or e.g. the spice rack, but every bit that is sorted I always feel better. In fact we are probably at the stage we need to go around again. The best thing I have done more recently is be more conscious when considering buying stuff - if I don’t really need it, however much of a bargain it is, I don’t buy it. A couple of years ago I was buying way too much stuff in sales, some of it didn’t even get worn! I’ve now sold most of it on Vinted, which has been brilliant. Long post .. probably should be on the declutterers threads |

Thanks B. That is helpful. And there is a bathroom cabinet that could do with a clear out. I’ll start there! I left the in-laws with 3 boxes to sort through, which is much more manageable than a whole room. As they’re not very mobile, getting things out of the house and donated to charity/to the tip is a big deal. |

We also have what we call a memory box/crate each. Mostly we keep things we love, need/use, but in the boxes are the old school reports, mementos, etc that have no use but we want to keep anyway.

@TheScribbler my oldest Blaydon t shirt is 2000, can you beat that 😆 Our kids moved out and have their own places. It took about 5 years to gradually get them to take or throw out their stuff. But as they left we gradually filled their rooms with our stuff- just because we could. So a declutter is long overdue. Most of it is good stuff, just way beyond what we'll ever need. |

[my oldest Blaydon t-shirt is 2009, still in regular use, and my oldest GNR one is from the heavy cotton days of ‘95]

[I miss cotton tees from races - they were useful to just wear for day to day and still allowed you to boast about the achievement in non-running situations! Most of mine now have gone under the arms...and hence to the textile bank.]

My oldest Blaydon and GNR shirts will be from 2009 too. I still wear more recent Blaydon and GNR tech shirts when I’m running and must have a North Tyneside 10k one in every colour going! I don’t have any non race running tops any more, other than Fetch and parkrun milestone ones. |

Today is my first non work day as a retired person. I’m glad I didn’t have to go to work - far too much to do!
