Went to see Simon Reeve last night and had a good night out. He’s obviously very concerned about climate change, but of the things he asked is to take away was ‘greening pensions’. He made a comment that I’ve just googled and saw this from a Guardian article from 2022. ‘If you are eager to reduce your carbon footprint, making your pension “green” is 21 times more effective than giving up flying, becoming a vegetarian and changing an energy provider combined, according to the campaign group Make My Money Matter.’ The guardian article links to this. makemymoneymatter.co.uk Any thoughts on this. I’ve not researched this 21x claim at all, other than literally googling ‘green pension’. Does it stack up? |

My view is that whether it is same, 10 x or 100 x , doing *everything* is important. We shouldn't pick and choose. I can do long haul flights because I planted a tree / greened my pension etc. |

That's an unrealistic aim happy. Even for the most hyper aware, driven, motivated climate campaigners. The framework within which we live means it's just not possible. The sackcloth and ashes campaign just isn't going to bring enough people with you. That's why the question big_G is important - what's the biggest single impact that a person can have: because like it or not, most people aren't going to make 100 small changes, but they might make one big change. |

He wasn’t saying pick and choose, to be fair. But I wasn’t sure of where the 21x claim came from, hence me wondering if anyone knew about it.

I can sound self righteous and holier than thou with what I'm about to say so I begin with a caveat that I pretty much never meet the terms of what I preach. I am not perfect by any stretch, is just my volition. To be frank, for me, to say anything that may help heal Mother Earth is not realistic is a cop out. Like I'm really dedicated to healing the environment as long as it doesn't impact too much on my comfort. I don't have to, aren't supposed to, can't, keep on living as I do and undo the damage already caused. I can only do me and maybe that will influence others, no it will, every action has consequence for ever. So what can I do? Ask myself every evening, if every human lived as I have today would the world begin to heal? In other words am I doing enough? Most often the answer is no and that is often not down to my consumption or physical actions but uncompassionate words or thoughts. It all contributes. When I identify how I can improve my lifestyle short term or long term I try again. It's not easy but nothing should be discounted if achievable in my opinion. I'm also open to my truth changing. I mean my marriage ended pretty much because of our differences about how we wanted to live. At the time I thought my actions were helping, I now wonder if the suffering it caused my kids and the conditions that comes with that suffering actually outweighs the environmental impact of the changes I made that ended the marriage. I can't carry guilt ,the time has gone, but must be open to learning and seeing the whole interconnected picture. I see it much the same as my ongoing journey with abstaining from alcohol and drugs, is definitely part of the same devotion to healing all, with taking it one day at a time. Today is all I have, along with the knowledge that all I do today will resonate in the universe forever. Yes I think about this a lot 🙈😂 is my whole life. Does it not need to be for all of us? |

A new BESS has been proposed near my old house. natpower.uk Good thing? Bad thing? I think pals who are still local are going to the consultation meeting. |

Overall, @cackleberry, I'd say a good thing. We need the storage to smooth out the supply and make it reliable. As to whether it's a good thing near to any housing.... I guess it's whether there's any detrimental to enjoyment of the area for the residents. |

That's what I was thinking 3M, overall good thing. It is 0.5km from the nearest residential property and large area has also been set aside for trees planting and ponds and to create a bit of a wildlife reserve type area. Existing footpaths will not be disrupted. I now live 10 miles away, but it would have been on my dog walking route, if not exactly my doorstep. |

Personally, having glanced through it, I would say that there are very few negatives which are outweighed by many positives.
