https://www.fetcheveryone.com/forum/the-benefits-of-giving-up-alcohol-18416) I just posted thison the benefits of giving up alcohol thread and I felt the practice of consuming mindfully is one that could do with its own little community here on Fetch. |

That didn't work great. Here is the link... fetcheveryone.com/forum/the-benefits-of-giving-up-alcohol-18416 Basically the premise is for us to support each other in whatever way we see fit. Sharing, listening, checking in. Nourishment and healing is one of the five mindfulness trainings of the Plum Village tradition of Buddhism which explains the practice of mindful consumption better than I can... 'Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful consumption, I am committed to cultivating good health, both physical and mental, for myself, my family, and my society by practicing mindful eating, drinking, and consuming. I will practice looking deeply into how I consume the Four Kinds of Nutriments, namely edible foods, sense impressions, volition, and consciousness. I am determined not to gamble, or to use alcohol, drugs, or any other products which contain toxins, such as certain websites, electronic games, TV programs, films, magazines, books, and conversations. I will practice coming back to the present moment to be in touch with the refreshing, healing and nourishing elements in me and around me, not letting regrets and sorrow drag me back into the past nor letting anxieties, fear, or craving pull me out of the present moment. I am determined not to try to cover up loneliness, anxiety, or other suffering by losing myself in consumption. I will contemplate interbeing and consume in a way that preserves peace, joy, and well-being in my body and consciousness, and in the collective body and consciousness of my family, my society and the Earth.' |

Good timing, I've just been invited to celebration cake. I'd have said no anyway. In terms of alcohol, I'm seen as weird at work for not drinking much never mind not at all. |

I used to be first in line for cake and would have thought you weird too. Like I said I do get it. I just went to visit Mil in hospital and deliberately left phone in the house to stop being sucked into the screen. |

I'm in for today. I will be mindful of how much sourdough I eat. It's not 'bad' but I still need to regulate my intake. I'm also considering foregoing my daily piece of coconut sugar chocolate. I must buy some creamed coconut again, I do like a little slice with a cup of tea. Though again I don't need it. I keep thinking about the huge electronic billboard advert I saw in Waterloo Station for 'this year's must see film' Civil War. I don't really do tv or social Media and class fetch as nourishing but what hope when we are bombarded with stuff like that on a collective level whether we choose to engage or not? Bombs and emotional stress, from what I saw, entering the minds and bodies of all who were in the station. Is reality and the news not enough? My teacher, Thay, says that by the age of 12 children in the US will have watched 100000 acts of violence and 8000 murders on tv. I can't say that's true for the UK but I'm sure it has substance. Then when people commit crimes, do wrong, we punish them rather than look at the reasons why. We consume the toxins of craving and violence constantly and society suffers. I say it before I say it again, things must change, I just wonder whether their is a collective desire to from top down. |
