I fully admit I haven't got a clue how to set my Garmin 25 to do intervals. Or even if it can. I'll rely on OH and a whistle

I am the "owner" of the London Fetch Mile. We've not had one for ages because attendance had dropped off to the level where it wasn't worth bringing a whole cake.
AFAIK there is still a regular Berkshire mile, and East Anglian.
Now, I'm not sure: is the challenge to run a mile in 9:59, or will any faster time do?

I have literally just started running again after a long time off. I must go check my mile pb which I am sure is under 10 min but set a looong time ago when I was running fit. I can't decide if this is a good way to motivate myself or a good way to break myself.

The thing is this, Chris: I want to be able to run a mile in something under 10 minutes because anything slower is not great for my running style and I don't 'have' to run further than a mile (according to my coach) but it needs to be easy. if it's easy then my 800 metres will be a lot quicker - although obviously not a sprint - because the 800 is not a sprint.
For other Fetchies - perhaps particularly the ones who see a Sub 30 5k as a challenge - I think it might be a good thing to know they 'can' run faster than they think. It is a powerful thing to see a mile time that begins with a 9.
The thread mantra should be 'I'm faster than I think I am.'

It won't break you, hp. It's just one tiddly mile and the goal is 9:59. It can even be downhill.
With a following wind.

Don't hate me but I just had a look at the numbers from my run on NYD and my fastest mile split was.....9:59. It's a bloody miracle. You are right though I suddenly feel quite optimistic about my running. If this short arse can do it there is hope for you all.

"I'm faster than I think I am" is good.
I can't imagine sub-10 being a challenge for you, though. Maybe outwith your targets.

I need a bit of help with the logistics here Ideas please. I know I'm being a bit thick.
How are you good folk planning to do this 2 and a half minute challenge? I don't have a Mr Jennywren with a stopwatch... I do have a Garmin.
I ran at the gym this morning. I ran 1 mile exactly in 10:44. A few minutes in, I ran @ 10.2kph for 2 and a half minutes. It was about as far as I could keep going for at that speed. But I can't do the maths to work out what that actually means!
I'm going to do an outdoor 2 and a half minutes sometime this week, once somebody tells me what/how to record it

Alice, if you hit the lap button at the start and end of your timed run, it will show you how far you ran in that time xx
You'll need to look in your manual (or online) to identify the lap button won't you ! 😂😂😂😂😂
