This morning's weather report for miles 15.5-16: Dry, cool and slightly overcast. In short, excellent running weather.

Yep, if we we could stick with today's weather that would be just perfect.

Nah, nice hot snap would be better, with humidity too if possible. Sunnies on, test of managing hydration strategy and some acclimitisation for the hot Ironman's I have lined up.

LOL, that's a very specific use-case there TRO. I hate running in hot weather, especiall hot unexpected weather.

Hot weather was one of the things that derailed FLM for me in 2007. But only one. The increase in participant numbers since my last outing, the spectators blowing whistles, and thinking I could do 3.30 when my training didn't predict it and then going off at sub-8mm pace also may not have helped.

It was around a bazillion degrees in the shade when I ran it in 2018 - I'm still convinced the tarmac was melting in places.

I saw a lot of runners grabbing two bottles at every water station due to the heat - which resulted in a lot of stations running out completely. I managed ok, but my wife who was somewhere behind me had to go about 12 miles with no water at all.

A combination of the heat and a bit of first marathon overexuberance resulted in a very disappointing time. Nothing at all to do with being rubbish and running or being totally unsuited to that kind of distance.

I'll stick to putting your bags on trucks, thanks :)

I’m very happy I’ll be near Fetchpoint. Having never run it and not being a Londoner, I don’t really know the course.

I’ll be here: w3w.co :-)

Now I need to train to recognise Fetchies!

The best option is to use the app. I think I managed to shout out some fetchies last year based on their bib numbers and knowing, via the app, that they were likely to be coming through soon. Though there are so many runners it is difficult to spot them unless they're wearing a Fetch piece of apparel.

I know I'll be in club colours so won't be spottable without any prior info, for example.

I remember a couple of Fetchies set up at Fetchpoint to give me a cheer one year, but as I galloped past Fetchpoint all I could see was the back of their heads... :-)

About This Thread

Maintained by Kirsty
After getting lucky in the ballot yesterday, I couldn’t find a thread, so thought I’d start one. Bit of background: I ran 7 marathons (2 London, 2002 and 2006) between 2002 and 2016, fastest 4:06, slowest 5:09. Major health issues in 2017 and 2019 and I felt that my marathon days were over, but I kept entering the ballot, safe in the knowledge I wouldn’t get in - and now I have! I am probably looking at walking the whole way, or possibly jeffing. I’m very excited and very nervous!
