After getting lucky in the ballot yesterday, I couldn’t find a thread, so thought I’d start one. Bit of background: I ran 7 marathons (2 London, 2002 and 2006) between 2002 and 2016, fastest 4:06, slowest 5:09. Major health issues in 2017 and 2019 and I felt that my marathon days were over, but I kept entering the ballot, safe in the knowledge I wouldn’t get in - and now I have! I am probably looking at walking the whole way, or possibly jeffing. I’m very excited and very nervous!

Hey Kirsty, good for you and best wishes with your plan as it evolves.

Historically I’ve run quicker times in autumn marathons, but I do love the purpose that a spring marathon gives to winter training.

My homegrown 18 week plan will start in Christmas week. I’ll just keep things ticking over up until then.

I'm aiming to get a sub 4 this time round, after getting 4.05 at Brighton in April.

I am currently half-marathon fit, and will keep my current regime (maybe do some longer run's), but start in earnest late December/early January.

I really didnt expect to get in on the ballot (I had hopes of getting in via the club, but needed a rejection from the ballot first), I read somewhere that only 17,500 get in from over 400,000 entries, thats about 1 in 25 chance!

I've plugged in my tweaked version of the P&D 12 week 35-55mpw plan to start late Jan, with an extra week to account for being on holiday (hopefully) for the week after Easter. Not ideal race prep, but we'll call it a taper.

Between now and then I'll keep myself honest with some club league races over shorter distances so I'm reasonably fresh for the plan to start.

From a long way away, my choice will be whether to target sub 3:10 again, or to pitch for a time which will be less stressful and more enjoyable. And I've already started worrying whether late April will be too hot :-)

I’m in, quite surprised to get in after my 6th (I think) try. It’ll be my first road marathon - I’ve done Beachy, the virtual London, and two marathons at those events where you run loops and choose how many you do.

Oh, and I’ll definitely be jeffing. I’d be happy to finish under 6 hours and delighted to get in under 5:30

I did my first official marathon training jeff today. 9k, enjoyed it and didn’t get rained on! Was surprised by how hot I got considering there was more walking than running.

Everyone paid for their ballot places? Deadline is today, just in case anyone needs a nudge!
