HellsBells
He scanned for us at parkrun on his way down on Saturday morning, I was chatting to him about growing up in Nottingham. He seemed a lovely man and i am irrationally upset

I think it's perfectly rational to be upset

Agree. Not irrational at all. Hugs HellsBells

Not irrational, human. It’s an awful thing. Big hugs.

Thanks - just seemed a bit OTT when I met him for all of half an hour.

I'd be exactly the same HellsBells. Someone who I knew via strava and had bumped into only once in person on the start line for a race, died during the Chester Metric Marathon back in 2017. I was far more moved and discombobulated by that than I had anticipated.

There are many people out there who knew Steve much better than me but I had the pleasure of running with him a few times. I worked with his wife a couple of years back and her running pace is very similar to mine so we have run together quite often. Steve seemed just as happy jogging 12 minute miles with a duffer like me as he did knocking out sub 3 hour marathons for fun. A really nice guy and I shall miss him. (His training is all on Fetch if you knw where to look)

Is it correct that London put Yuki Kawauchi in with the mass start because he had ran a previous marathon too close to London? Seems an odd decision. He finished from the masses in 2:13 and a tweet after the race seems to suggest he was expecting an elite start. The chap has over 100 sub-2:20s and his Boston win in extremely challenging conditions is probably my favourite marathon race.

This is his tweet after the race where he seems to reference a 30 or 60 day rule, but I’m not sure what that means (I have googled it).

I believe so, Big_G. A rule I'd been unaware of until Yuki's apparent injustice popped up on Letsrun.

About This Thread

Maintained by Kirsty
After getting lucky in the ballot yesterday, I couldn’t find a thread, so thought I’d start one. Bit of background: I ran 7 marathons (2 London, 2002 and 2006) between 2002 and 2016, fastest 4:06, slowest 5:09. Major health issues in 2017 and 2019 and I felt that my marathon days were over, but I kept entering the ballot, safe in the knowledge I wouldn’t get in - and now I have! I am probably looking at walking the whole way, or possibly jeffing. I’m very excited and very nervous!
