In this case though, Yuki is a known elite and has won Boston in arguably one of the best marathons ever. He was there for his 6th marathon major, and is currently the second fastest to complete all 6. He would have finished 11th in the elite race on gun time, so all those elite men behind him (men placed up to 24) didn’t actually finish in that place, because Yuki was ahead of them on the road. To me, putting any obviously elite runner in with the masses is not the correct decision. From his tweet he was expecting an elite start, so someone presumably made the decision to remove him from that field. I’m sure all/most major races do similar, but obviously the fact that an actual elite was in with the masses makes it look very odd in this case and I think London dropped the ball.
A few from the masses would have disrupted the elite standings. Why don’t London just publish the gun times, in order? Is it a prize money issue?
Has anyone got the actual link of the details of this rule?
I don't think the elite terms and conditions will be in the public domain, tbh. Masses ones are and don't make any reference to prizes or positions etc, so the rules in place are just general BA ones.
Has anyone who did the Virtual this year had their T shirt and medal yet? It took weeks last time but I was hoping they'd got it better organised this time. No sign as yet
After getting lucky in the ballot yesterday, I couldn’t find a thread, so thought I’d start one. Bit of background: I ran 7 marathons (2 London, 2002 and 2006) between 2002 and 2016, fastest 4:06, slowest 5:09. Major health issues in 2017 and 2019 and I felt that my marathon days were over, but I kept entering the ballot, safe in the knowledge I wouldn’t get in - and now I have! I am probably looking at walking the whole way, or possibly jeffing. I’m very excited and very nervous!
