Cuthbert hasn't found his tribe yet. He has mates he rumbles along at school with but nobody who wants to do the stuff he wants to do. It's hard to watch but i think he'll get there. In his year the kids who go out on bikes and stuff are up to no good. He just wants to be out swimming and wasting his money on a subway or getting lifts to the bouldering place.

I don't think LitteD has either. She seems to lurch from one group to another

Mine (both girls) didn’t get on badly at school, they had friend groups which shifted quite a lot. But they didn’t really find their tribe until Uni. It’s towing that it’s the uni friends that have stuck and they don’t see school friends much when they’re home.

Had a word w LittleD last night about school lateness and she basically said 'everything we do now will be repeated next year and I don't think I want to go to university anyhow'. OH is furious as a lot of money and time has been spent planning open day visits. I know it's early days and she may change her mind so just venting. Am again torn between parental boundaries and letting her make her own decisions.

That sounds annoying and frustrating Linds. Venting here is a good thing

So familiar Linds. Although if the open day visits end up convincing her not to go, that is money well spent, and it is not unusual to try work and then go to uni later. So it really isnt wasted

Hard weekend but child is in: mrS is dropping off and collecting and then taking her to his work so she can study. We are then all going to try eating together. Im giving us points for still trying new ways to make a thing work.

What Dipps says: The open day at the uni Son had an offer from convinced him not to go. He's now an instructor at an outdoor activities centre (KS2 residentials) just east of the Lake District - which is where he spends his weekends out on the fells. Definitely the right decision for him - but I must admit I had concerns that he was throwing away opportunities at the time.

I'd agree with Dipps and TR - Uni visit days are good, whatever the outcome. Negative as well as positive. And can be quite a bonding experience.
We got to do 3 rounds (one per child) so saw quite a lot of the English universities multiple times for different subjects.
