LittleD had a late shift last night. She promised me she would get up for school. She's still asleep. I'm torn between hassling her to get up and just accepting that right now her job is more important to her. Working has really done wonders for her self esteem and confidence and they are giving her a lot of positive feedback.

I left her. She went in at 10.20. School sent two messages, emails, and called both OH and me, after she had already turned up. Am awaiting a summons to talk about her lateness. Sigh. I'm going to have a low-stakes chat about late finishes/early starts.

Linds suggested I posted here - think I did a while ago but am back again.

Daughter is 17 and in year 12. Extreme perfectionist. To the extent where getting eight 9s and three 8s at GCSE felt like a failure (albeit two of her close friends both got eleven 9s). Is acheiving very well in her A Levels but is lacking confidence in her abilities and now mocks are coming up is working too hard or at least too much.

She has issues which are some combination of physical and mental and I don't know which is the main one or exactly how they work together but she ends up getting too hot/cold/tired/stressed/feeling sick etc. Study periods that are timetabled in computer rooms don't work for her and this has been addressed by school so she has to register somewhere else and then go where she can find but this week I have been texted twice as she "wasn't there" although of course she was.

She also went in late one day as she forgot her lanyard which I then took to her but she wouldn't go in until registration was over...

Last night she was panicking that she won't manage to do 4 mock exams in two days. I don't know how much is that it's going to be physically hard or mentally hard. Am finding it all very hard. And she wants to apply to Oxford - at the moment I can't see that working if she's crumpling under the stress of 4 exams in 2 days but don't fancy saying that to her. Academically her trying is reasonable but it does concern me.

I also am having to bite my tongue when she is being what is basically a normal teenager and being self centred but as she told me last night that me even ever raising my voice a little bit is too stressful for her it is a big effort!

ARGH is my main feeling. At least she is currently in a field near school with friends so I haven't had to tread on eggshells yet this afternoon!

Are you worried about the Oxford entrance procedure or going there? I went there and the pressure is very different from school. It might suit her.

I think at the moment I’m more worried about entrance tests (she’ll have two of them for the subject she wants to study) and then the interview. Not actually thinking much further ahead yet!

Does she have any strategies for dealing with panic attacks?
