Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Cheers Joe. Yes hoping it doesn't rain more overnight! My plan is to set off at MP (9m/m) and then pick it up for the last few miles if I'm feeling good, without wrecking next week's training. I've been testing some new gels and realising how much I've been underfuelling, so I'm hoping for a strong run now I'm sorting that out. Hope you have a good one whatever you go for!

Good luck in the half this weekend, everyone who's racing.

I agree with the others, I would only try to run with the 1:30 pacers if I had sufficient tempo training at race pace under my belt, at least 4 sessions with 3-7 miles at race pace which felt comfortably hard. What is your current threshold pace?

I'm at a similar HM level. My PB was 1:38:02 until last October. In that race, I let the 1:30 pacers go, I just tried to stick to 7:30 pace for the first 10 miles to pick it up at the end to 7:20 for a new PB in 1:37:42.
At the moment, 6:52 is my 5k PB pace so no chance of making it even halfway at that pace. It would a very miserable second half and the 1:45 pacers might come from behind to pick me up and I'd end up being slower than if i had tried to run a steady pace from the start.

Yes, it's a 4:15am start here to avoid the heat. Good luck those back at Wokingham (my usual race at this time of the year) and hope it's not too wet for you all.

Yea, that was a bit of a throwaway comment, by "with" the 1:30 pacers I really mean "with an eye on" and see how it goes at a fraction better than PB pace, not expecting to keep up with 1:30. Training has been good, plenty of miles, some (maybe not enough?) at decent pace, I'm feeling strong and in decent shape, and I do think with the right course on the right day when everything goes well I've got a 1:35 in me...but who knows if it'll be the right day!...
