damo - agree totally. You've got to look after yourself before you can look after anyone else and I think most of us do our best to minimise the impact of our training on our nearest and dearest.

Just checking in on my favourite thread. Realise there's not many marathons over the next few months but people are still running, right?

Post (unprepared for) marathon I've built up mileage a bit, running most of my easy runs on nice dry trail paths and have got back to around 50 miles a week for the past 6 weeks. This is really working for me and last night ran a 17:14 5k for 2nd place in heat B of the Loxley lash.

I thought I'd run somewhere between 17:15-17:45 so was really happy to just sneak under the lower end of my pre race prediction.

The course measures long for everyone but apparently it's been measured with a wheel. I only got 3.16 miles this time and hit the apex of every turn. Last time I got it at 3.20 miles.

Nah, pretty much the off-season here, I've got a 10k planned in early July (Harrogate) and will probably do a few parkruns but most of my involvement in running will be reading about your exploits over the summer :-)

Cycling mileage is up though!

Still not really made a decision about next year. I'll probably do Mancs unless something crops up.

Good effort on the 5k Brunski, whats the summer plan? Sounds like that could have been close to a PB if you could have used the watch distance.

I've got a 5k tomorrow night, I had been feeling good about it but feel a bit ropey today so not sure how it'll go. Target was sub 17 but we'll see

I've also got Sandringham half in 10 days, its got some trail so not sure how quick it'll be.

I'll start some marathon training soon but am not sure if I'll do an autumn marathon or just target a half. At the moment I'm not sure I've got it in me to commit to a full marathon training schedule

Cheers both, I love it how you really cut the running jda, if uninjured I don't think I could do that.

Not really sure I have a plan Chris, I'll probably end up running the Sheffield 10k in September so might try to structure training a bit before that. I'm not running another marathon until next spring so will probably just try to keep running on the trails where I can and parkruns.

Good luck in your 5k. Yeah the GPS time would've been sub 17 but that's only good for virtual stuff. Quite a few PBs last night from mates so conditions were very good!

Well TBH I just find it too hot to run hard for much of the summer, when I've done autumn marathons (twice) the training was a real struggle. Had a nice 5k jog this morning but I'm glad I'm not slogging away now! Maybe for regular workers who train early or late, I suppose the winter/summer trade-offs are a bit different as winter means dark/cold/wet and summer means you can see where you're going in pleasant morning or evening temps.

Yeah I enjoy running more in the summer but racing in the Autumn/spring conditions. Whenever I've run York marathon I've tried sessions/long runs on holiday in Spain (usually in August), they get less and less enjoyable as distance progresses, and paces are definitely heat adjusted.

Can’t really afford lagging off, I’ll try to keep it up and see what the heat does to the pace and feel, but the training won’t be undone I guess, even if it feels bad during the hot months.

I have to get the work in :)

There are some training benefits to running in the heat.

Heat training triggers a series of physiological adaptations that can boost performance.

Every cloud has a silver lining ;)
