Frosty The Bowman πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ not at all. I've always been sharp at the short stuff, the long stuff not so good at all. It's a different beast that isn't my strong point.

Bowman - You looked possible sub 3 from your runs

markgall - From your runs with a good conversion you would be closer to 2:40 / 2:45 accepting you aren't expecting that I'd still think 2:50 ish is very acheviable.
Which start are you going from at Edinburgh ?

Thanks guys, (i sounded like i was looking for some flattery :) )

Yes it felt like i could be in the ballpark for around 3h. And from my stats as well. But not in the heat, i learned that. :)
But ok, i see your point markgall and yes, after 30-32 km it's getting to be a whole new thing.

Joe Hawk I'm off the white start, so just behind the fast club runners. My aim is to go through the half in around 1.25 all being well, but see how I feel on the day, certainly don't want to be pushing too hard the first half.

That's the one you want to be else you have to weave through everyone from 3-4 miles in , though it is a bigger downhill at the start.
It is still downhill to coast, so very easy to get sucked into too fast a pace

What are people thinking is a good conversion from a half time ?

Double + 5, 7 , more ?

I have looked at double + 10, when I started my block I thought I could maybe do a 1.20-1.22 half, so pitched my training at 2.50-2.55 accordingly.

I think the general perceived wisdom is double + 10 minutes but I convert much better than that. Everyone's different. Endurance is definitely my forte, I'm not very fast - or not very good at pushing myself over the shorter distances.

Never did halves enough to have a true conversion. So think I'm about Double +1

I'm half x 2, plus 2mins. But I'm much better at the longer (marathon/ultra) stuff than the shorter stuff. Each to their own. @markgall I'd be targeting a 2:55 pace up to 18 miles ish and see what happens from there on. Best of luck in Edinburgh - check the wind direction on race day as it can be very exposed along the coast (mile 5 to 26).

I'm running the Edinburgh half the same day.
