I shouldn’t have starting googling..
Any thoughts on tapering?
Last time I did two weeks, had my last long run 13 days before the race and then started the tapering. Felt good.

This time the plan is last LR 15 days before the race.
But then I read this:
runnersworld.com

Any thoughts? How do you do?

I think it depends what you feel like.

However note that the research (which I just glanced at quickly) fundamentally defines taper in terms of reducing total weekly volume, you can still do a long run at any point, if your weekly mileage dropped it was a taper anyway!

I did my last proper long run 3 weeks out this time but that was basically because I had a 10k two weeks out (that I followed by a medium-long run a couple of days after). Then a parkrun 8 days out that I ran hard.

I think I could possibly have done with a slightly longer taper this time, I felt quite tired right up to just before the race, though I was well fuelled and OK on the day. Maybe the 10k and 5k were just a bit too much. I don't usually race on 3 consecutive weekends!

Yes ok, yes I guess if you just think about the mileage then there’s nothing magic about the LR per say jdawayinamanger, I’ll go for the plan I have, I once did 3 weeks and felt it was a bit to much, but I also guess it depends on how you decrease your runs and what not. 15 days of “rest” from LR probably is ok enough.
Cheers!

Good luck to the Londoners tomorrow!

I had a look and my York time from October qualifies me for GFA in 2024. I might not have to run a marathon this year after all

Hey everyone congrats all to all the recent results, some speedy performances this spring!
2:54:47 today in my first London marathon. 11 secs PB
Raced really well (1:27:32/1:27:15) was aiming for a bigger negative split and felt really good till mile 24 but lost few seconds in the last 2 miles deep in the hurt locker.
Completely blown away by the atmosphere at this race, will be back next year for sure!
