My marathon training is certainly very self-contained. I'd find it hard to go out in a group that wasn't absolutely spot-on for paces and goals. (I do run occasionally with the club but not as part of the training). Agree no room for flair in an optimal marathon! Though I enjoyed the locally hilly one where I jogged chatting with the lead group to past half-way before heading off hard up a big hill That was the only time I've "raced" for a place rather than time trialling for a time. |

Brunski I think it might be, more for the introverts that is. I do better with less distractions, where i can dig down in my head, probably why i can do pretty well by myself in the matter of good performances, and can be overwhelmed in race situations. |

I'm fine with the time LMH, it was what I wanted, just need the people to add me to the results. I'm not sure if I mentioned but the number I was given on the day didn't have a chip on it so my time isn't currently on the results. I've provided evidence but waiting to be added. I'll be more than a bit annoyed if I got up at 5am and drove 90 miles to not get a time. |

You could write a book on marathon mishaps Good effort though Sorry I havenโt been on here much since yesterday to comment on all the outcomes. Well done on the successes. For those who didnโt have their day, you will do do in the future. |

I could write a book on mishaps in general Baz ๐ Frosty The Bowman ๐ธ๐ช I'm not saying only people with more introverted tendancies run good marathons but I think I might be onto something with it being easier for some to follow a plan, stick to their splits, and execute a good performance on a longer race. If I'm honest I think I crave attention, I was a bit of a joker in school and love a |

Bruno looking back through the thread I see you put both of these as a way to tackle in the last week:- I might start at 7 min miles, so around 3:05, and just really try to listen to the body and where I am in the race/run 1 mile WU and 6 x 3 miles with the other 7.2 as being flexibly lengthed/paced floats What changed to go for 6:31/6:42/6:39 pace for miles 1-3 |

The mile beeped and I saw Iโd already blown my warm up. Then I got into a nice little pack that were runnning just sub-3 pace, so I decided it was just meant to happen that way! Youโre (Iโm) burning through blog (bog) material here. |

Being comfortable in your own company helps for distance running, but being able to apply yourself and stick to and trust in a plan is key. That doesnโt mean an introvert or extrovert is any better, itโs about trusting in the process and following it.

2.53.24 at the 'other Boston' marathon today. A 14 min course PB from last year's COVID affected effort so quite pleased with that, all things considered. Conditions nigh on perfect with only a little headwind in places. Newton's hills don't get any easier and a massive downpour in the last 10k made it interesting underfoot in the AFs. All good so hopefully can carry that gain into training for New York in Nov. |
