Well done whiteflash! Legs, what legs? Haven't really stood up for long today. Actually not too bad considering, I've had it worse. Have blogged at length. You could almost run a marathon quicker than read it |

Inspirational running from many on here, congrats Lee, JDA and Whiteflash. My running a marathon without long runs experiment ended as many would have predicted. I ran 3:05:26 which might just about bee good enough for GFA entry if I can get the organisers to verify my time and add it to the results. I may blog in the next few days but the quick read would be: Miles 1-13 felt really easy (much slower than current 5k shape), then I went with a couple who broke off the group I was in, this felt a little tougher, then I needed the portaloo at mile 18 (1.5 -2 mins), then my knee started grumbling, my hips/groin started spasming, and the lack of long runs really bit. I managed to avoid the desire to walk but paces dropped off a cliff over the final 6 miles or so. 4 1/2 minutes should be OK for GFA entry but I did it the hard way, I didn't want to train properly for a marathon this spring/year but if others I run with are doing London next year and this time gets me in then the experiment will have been worth it. |

Still pretty impressive that you knock out a close to 3h brunski, with portaloo, no long runs, spasms. I guess it's all relative |

Good effort Brunski, it's sort of comforting that the collective wisdom of the thread predicted your experience so well Good luck with the GFA, most people seem to say 2-3 mins under nominal limit is about the borderline so you should be fine. |

Yep hive mind in action there jdawayinamanger. In fact if you could have asked Chat GPT to scrape all my past pacing errors, blogs, look at my lack of long runs in a training log, my mid race gut issues, and come up with a likely time... I bet they'd have got pretty close with the splits too. All very predictable that I'd ignore the sage advice of running a safe GFA time a far easier way with more even pacing! |

Thanks Frosty The Bowman πΈπͺ, yeah an old football mate of mine called me a Maverick on Going back to my football days I always liked to think of myself as a flair player, I think a lot of my problems with marathon running is it doesn't really allow you the option to add 'flair', it's very hard for me to do anything the same (over and over) for 3 hours, my mind starts wandering. If I'm not in with a shout of a PB (or a sub-3 off limited long runs maybe), or something that I feel might get a bit of interest from others, I think I lose interest. Thinking aloud I wonder if marathon running is more suited to people who are slightly more introverted? |

You should be fine with that Brunski. Job done and you can enjoy a summer of running how you want.
