Thanks jomo but a bit feverish today so may not even run 😬 it’s supposed to be half marathon pace tomorrow, not sure that’s gonna happen

Don't run if you have a temperature Chris - it's just not worth the risk.

You’re definitely right there LMH, I’m sure I’d be ok now if I hadn’t have done a long run yesterday.
Anyone listen to a podcast called don’t tell me the score? Just listened to a good one on confidence which reinforced that I shouldn’t run if I’m not up to it. Seemed quite timely

Hello (again) Its been a while. On the subject of taking spells away from running its safe to say I've done that over the past 18 months. Started focusing on triathlon stuff and hoped that the cross training would keep my running fitness up. It didn't. And there's no substitute for miles in the bank, or at least not for me. So, I've decided to get the running mileage back up and have another crack at a sub 3 in the Spring next year. I'm assuming I've missed the usual discussions about injury, trainer choice, cross training, marathon plans, core work and tapering :-)...

Welcome back Tizer, which spring marathon are you thinking of doing?
I can fill a void on your life by banging on about injuries, cross training, strength and core work, and a (lack of) training plans if you like

Speaking of strength and core work, have you noticed they affect your speedwork sessions if you do them too close together ?

SKR I’m rubbish at doing core work, and I think your training must be a lot more structured than mine as I couldn’t really say if it affected my pace in sessions much. I think I’ve always do the strength work after a run.
However in the past fortnight I’ve done my trusty 10 minute core routine with a sandbag 3 times, mainly in the hope that it fixes my groin/hip flexor niggles. It definitely seems to be helping me so I’ll try to continue doing it 2-3 times a week from here on.

Regarding strength/plyometric work, I'm also wondering when people prefer to fit it in? I keep on intending to do some one-leg box jumps etc but it doesn't seem sensible to do them just before or after a hard run nor on the easy days!

I ask because i did a 45 min Strength session on Tuesday morning, my 8 miler later on that even was fine (actually much better, my cadence was up and i felt like i could have gone on for much longer.)
My threshold session yesterday evening was absolutely rubbish, i couldn't even manage MP and i was plagued with DOMS later in the night. It sort of fits with what i've read about DOMS coming on the day after a workout.
Just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this or wether i just had a bad day.
