Brunski - google Morton’s Neuroma and make sure it’s not that. I’ve been there and you really need to avoid that one....

I stopped wearing any sort of flip flop or sandals when on holiday as I always came back from holiday with some kind of a foot niggle. Pretty annoying but needs must. I did consider looking at a pair of fit flops which may give better support but I haven't got round to it

Teva sandals for me on holiday/in summer if it's anything more than a few metres to the bar and back. They're well comfy.

I also use walking sandals and limit my barefoot time - annoying but necessary.

Take care with the niggles Brunski. A bit of time off (or cross-training) when you aren't really training with purpose anyway may be well worth it. Coincidentally I was watching a youtube video yesterday where a few athletes were talking about their weight gain in the off season and it made me feel a whole lot better about my slack summer! I'm about 2-3kg above race weight and have been reasonably active but not running much. My Aug mileage to date is already close to June and July put together. Things are looking up though, I didn't expect too much from my threshold session today due to the blustery conditions but was almost 8s/km faster than the same workout two weeks ago and am starting to feel like a proper runner again. Still nowhere near truly race fit but I'm looking forward to Saturday's 5k test. LMH, I'll put you in the sidebar. |

Cheers WW, I looked at Morton’s neuroma before and kind of discounted it but looking again it’s definitely in or around the 3rd/4th metatarsal and it occasionally feels like I’m standing on an acorn. Struggle to get into doing much cross training jda, may go back to a bit of cycling if I sort the front tyre of the bike that’s gathering dust in the garage. |

take care then Brunski I resorted to cushioned insoles like these: amazon.co.uk and even wearing this kind of thing to help me: amazon.co.uk the only issue with all this is that if you google the reasons for acquiring MN then it's often put down to crowded toes (hence why the main victim is women wearing pointed shoes). So, you wear a metatarsal cushion and use padded insoles to help but it can in fact even make it worse if you're not careful. For a period I even moved to wearing shoes with a wider toe box (Asics) to reduce crowding in the forefoot. I did go to the fizz too but I was never convinced that they were doing a lot for me with this one. This is where I learnt my loathing for Asics shoes! |

Hey thanks for the links WW, thinking back 8 know I’ve suffered with foot pain in the past, I remember buying very similar insoles previously, I’m hoping it’s just a bit of a weakness of mine that passes by being a bit more careful with how I run and what I land on. Otherwise I’ll be looking up this post ^ and ordering me some Asics 😂 |

Oh and took your advice jda and rather than go out for a 5 mile run this evening I spent 25 minutes on my wife’s spin bike (in the garage) accompanied by a YouTube spin class, and then had 10 minutes with my sandbag attempting to work the core a bit! Sweated like a pig doing the spin class thing, tough! |
