Brunski
JDA - sorry Tempo Boosts are just the Adidas model I'm planning on wearing.

LMH - Decathlon white cap, looks like one size fits all but on closer inspection there is an 'S' on the label that must indicate small - Nice Velcro bit on the back to adjust to fit the head :-)

Baz - I've had tight calf as well and put mine down to wearing low profile shoes last Sunday (at least I got to rule out the Salomon D3's I was half planning to wear).

Not sure what the cause is for me Brunski and it only appeared during a sports massage. The 2 runs I have done since didn't make it any worse. But neither did it get any better. At this stage rest is the sensible thing. Its in a spot I have had this before and also I had a bit of history of cramp in that spot in later stages of marathons.

Oops, seems like I have something to answer for Brunski!

I also got my cap last night from decathlon, it must be the same one as it has an S on it. I spent some time going through them looking for other sizes, but they were all the same. Seems to fit me ok though - I must have a small head!

I'm trying not to feel intimidated by those of you choosing super fast sounding footwear. I'm sticking with what I know.

Rest definitely the best idea - Bazo.

I have 3 running caps, all black though. My favourite was an FLM 2009 one that I picked up at the expo, but that's probably seen better days now and not worth using. I will take one of the other 2 with me but see if I can pick up a suitable white one at the expo.

The rest is going well so far :-)

Yeah I got that brunski - just wondering how much they vary from my shoes. Maybe just a touch more cushioning.

LMH, you must be getting excited :-). It’s always a funny feeling for me after the early marathon, seeing the rest of you with it all to look forward to and I’ve got a year to wait for the next go...

Bazo, honestly I’d probably keep jogging through it unless running actually makes it worse. But that advice is not backed by any qualification or guarantee!

I tried that for 2 days JDA and while its no worse, neither is it better. I normally would run through something like this and did with something that I felt at the end of Sundays race and that is better now but with the calf and where it is I have decided to rest.

Its in a spot where I have in the later stages of a marathon when tiring that I have experienced cramp starting which forces me to slow down to control it. Given that I know I have that tendency I would rather not start a marathon feeling tightness I that spot as I am pretty sure what the outcome will be. It doesn't happen all the time, and in fact mostly happens when I set out at a pace that is a bit ambitious. If I get the pacing right it doesn't happen.

I also figure no running at the weekend gives me a chance for a couple of lie ins that might just help me get over the tiredness and lack of sleep I have had for a few weeks

Maybe I just have a big heed paul0.

I don't suit a cap anyway - I have a holiday picture that my wife still pulls out from time to time with me doing a double thumbs wearing a cap and a t-shirt that is a bit too tight....not a good look, my wife unkindly jokes that I look in need of a carer!

Sounds as though you have it under control Baz.

I'm not sure excited is the right word at the minute jda. I'm desperately hoping it's warmer - and dry! Of course no wind would be good too...........

Chris I also have an old (but not too heavily used) pair of 7s, they're a sort of orangey-red colour!

Cap wise, I’ve an older version of this (in white)
wiggle.co.uk
It’s got two layers, which is supposed to improve ventilation. Plus it fits my massive head too.
