You're probably looking at the few in the top 20-30 here who have done recent miles. http://www.fetcheveryone.com/leaguetable.php?distance=1&unit=miles |

Even with only a few contenders, a good thread. A nice counter to the Fetch marathon obsession. I'm interested to see what training is required for a very different goal.

What race approach do people favour? Seem to remember reading on the Science of Sport blog that 800 is the only middle or long distance event where it's optimal to run the first half faster.

Did anyone see the 400m at Birmingham at the weekend. Seemed they went out hard 21.26 for first 200m then obviously slowed for the second 200m (in 24.26) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNADNlUDIIU&feature=player_embedded# same tactics for the 800?

Okoro tries to go out hard and suffers. Holmes won by going even pace (ish). Indoors they do seem to go out harder, maybe because positioning is more important than time?

I know Jaiboi runs faster when he goes out hard and hangs on but prefers to run a more controlled race.
