Good luck with this Blister - will watch the thread with interest but will run an 800 time trial before I dare to join the group! 12.3 for the 100 last year gives me some hope that it may be possible, but I'd be surprised if I break 2.20.

Nice one abdou, you never know. I think its the combination of pure speed and strength which is the key.

You defo need endurance or strength hence all those reps of 600s at close to race pace with a millisecond of recovery. I remember them well.

I concentrated on speed for a year before I stopped running hence why my 400 time is out of sync with my 800 and 1500. It was my first year as as a youth, the coaches grand plan being 800 and 1500 with more speed when a second year youth. I never made it to the second year youth!!

I stopped when I left school.

We were made to specialise in whichever discipline the sportsmaster thought was your strongest, so despite having been an all round kind of guy, playing cricket, hockey and rugby to a decent standard, I was made to run to the exclusion of everthing else and made part of a training group.

Unsurprisingly then, when I left school (and therefore the group), and was faced with churning out the miles solo or going back to the team sports (with their inherent social side) I had missed out on, it was cricket and rugby all the way!

I then got married and had kids and the team sports stopped too due to the demands of family on my time, but the socialising continued. I then hit 30 and started piing on the pounds, until about a year ago when I had hit nearly 14 stone and was drinking roughly a bottle of wine each night and smoking about 10 fags a night.

Am gradually now clawing back some respectability but I strongly suspect the days of 2 min 800m running are behind me regardless!

AlanR - recover from the race then do a TT to see where you are. Then you can plot the path back to 1.59.

Everything is possible

How long would you say to allow me to recover? I ran the school districts last year on the Thursday after FLM in 2.15 not sure if that would be anything to go by

You should have stuck at it Boab! So what time did you do for 400m?

Ah makes sense Slog, that seems to happen to most people (i.e. family). I know team sports wont get in my way so hopefully I wont get married or anything (at elast not any time soon!).

Not suprised there can't be many of Fetch would could reasonably aspire to such a time. It was certainly well beyond me at my peak. My PB of 2-08 was set in a time trail, but best race time was 2-10.4 on a grass track, I dare if I'd raced the distance more often I may have shaved a bit off of of my time trial time, but only a second or two. My best 400m is 59.4 so sub 2 would have meant pretty much running at 400m pace.
