Boab
Blister, trained quite hard for it. 7 sessions a week including a day off. Winter was xc and hill reps over 1-3 minutes. Spring time moved to track and did reps of between 200-600m with short recoveries then racing season was all out sharpening speed work. The numbers show that I was more useful over 400 than 800, but I preferred the 800/1500. Blame Coe, cram and ovett for that, lol.

Oh great (makes me feel better for not having achieved it yet!). What was your 400m time? I plan to do simular training to what you mentioned above so hopefully it will work!

I'm surprised you ever gave up running if you were that fast.

It's well in the past now but for what it's worth I had a best of 1:58 when I was 17.

That was off a similar approach to Boab, loads of cross country over the winter, followed as the track season approached by intervals (200-600m) with short static intervals, mixed with short (3-4mile) gentle recovery runs.

I was slightly the opposite in terms of basic speed though, my best 400m was about 52.xx secs but could pretty much sustain it over the two laps.

I should add that is for your information and does not imply any intention on behalf of the author to attempt anything like that again now, especially not after 20 years of inactivity!

i Want to do this sometime and would need to do it very soon i think.

I ran a 2.00.9 in the last event of mulit event championships which I ran on my own from gun to tape as everyone else was sprinted and i was the only natural mid/long disntace runner. Then I tried to run it fully fresh a number of times and hit 2.06/2.07 a number of time, that was in better conditions and better pacing.

My pbs then were

100 12.80
200 24.80
400 54.22

My sprint starts arn't great as it takes me too long to get upright and running.

Gobi - Do you think it would be possible to do this a month or 2 after running a marathon?

I think I know who you mean now Gobi

Awsome Sloggerian, what made you stop running? Oh what kind of times did you start out with (e.g. 2.10 etc)?

Oh and Alan, I still think you should have never moved up from middle distance lol...but since you seem to have that natuaral speed I'd imagine it wont take you long to get that fast again.
