Excellent, well done, rhb! Magic definitely didn't happen for me last night, just felt completely lifeless and instead of running 18:15-18:20 which I thought was a good possibility, I ran 18:50. (Of course, once you realise you're not going to be anywhere near your target, it's easy for things to just keep slipping).

Nice work @rhb, you've put together a good series.

There will be no magic for me as I'm out of Saturday. A niggle has turned into a injury. Disappointing as think I'd trained well and would have been good to see what that would have led to.

SPR, hope injury clears up quickly.

Doubt I'll get another chance at a fast 5K this year now, as 5K races are very much a summer thing here and there are no more local ones coming up. I'll have to fall back on parkrun!

Sorry to hear SPR

My foot injury is ongoing and I now seem to have a minor calf issue in the same leg (the joy of the secondary)

Ironically fine on the bike

Top run RHB! Very nice in tough conditions.

Hopefully short term injuries SPR/Gobi.
I’ve been floored by a virus of some kind - managed a couple of runs, but basically feeling on low-power at all times.

Think I might have a September 5k to shoot for potentially, which could be fun. Any more races left, or is it back to parkrun?

Thanks all. Wish I'd backed off when I first felt the niggle after my session a couple of Saturdays ago but then I ran a session ok on the Tuesday after and just thought it was something I could run through without it getting worse. Hopefully short term and I just end up cursing my stupidity in missing the target race. Pace for my race was set at 16:05 which would have been perfect for hanging at the back for 16:15 pace with a chance for more if magic happened.

Hope your injury clears @Gobi and you recover well from the virus @Miser

I highlighted the masters 5000 champs in Brum on 14 September a month or two back. Late for track season but think it's the only thing I see now and standard won't be clear until more entries come in.

Hopefully fitness permitting I'll be aiming for a HM mid October so training won't be as targeted if I go for that. Obviously injury now puts that in a bit of jeopardy in terms training.

I'd like to have one more go at 1500 this year but injury will need to be short term for that to happen as losing too much sharpness will make that not worth doing.

Oh, I'm rubbish in the summer. Managed to convince myself that I needed a short break from running to rest up some tired legs and instead ended up with 3 holiday weeks of about 12 miles in total of running.

Sub 19 back out of the window! And struggling for motivation.

If I do run at the Mid Cheshire, it will be a "sub 20 attempt" now, and the 10k in 4 weeks time looks equally daunting, and certainly won't be likely to trouble sub 40.

I don't regret taking the time off to properly enjoy the holiday / max out time resting / enjoying time with my family, but the consequences are annoying!!

There's nothing wrong with a break IMO. I have had a long break this spring/summer with little more than some gentle jogging, still enjoyed a couple of races despite very poor performances comparatively speaking. I'd value longevity over peak performance and working at it when you don't feel it will likely lead to burnout or disillusionment and boredom. Chances are you'll knuckle down and the fitness will come back when you feel like it.

Sub20 might be a goal for me too next time I find a flat fast 5k (most park runs that I visit are probably too tough, I didn't break 21 at Skipton a couple of weeks ago). Thought I saw a hint of a Podium 5k race in November, but may be imagining it.

Ah yes here it is:

I'll not be long back from a "training camp" in the USA, so might have a few more miles in my legs by then. Though will be mostly cycling.
