WP - sorry your run suffered due to disturbed sleep. Hopefully you'll sleep well tonight and be able to run further tomorrow.

Big G - I know that 5 day deadline is rubbish. But I needed to get back to work as I'd taken 4 days off the previous week to sit with my Mum while she was dying. Then we only get 2 days bereavement leave for a parent, Mum died on the Saturday so I needed to be back at work on the Wednesday. Paignton (pre link road) is a slow 20 mile round trip in August plus appointment time would have been a big chunk out of a working day. And annoyingly just the doctors not bothering to do the death certificate promptly was the only delay.

Had to cut today's run short,my leg is really sore, had it before where it feels like it's giving up so just did 4.5 and came home, brings up 55 for the week but not where I was hoping. Will assess it over the next day or 2 and see how it goes.

Ian - is that your calf again? Seems to come on suddenly.

55 is still a good week's training.

Shades-It is sort of outside the calf,it's been niggling for a few days but usually eases when I run, think it's all linked to the original achilles issue as its always the same lower leg.
Just checked my miles and despite last week I am averaging 50 for the last 8 weeks, for Antwerp it was 44 at this stage but I had 3 big weeks now, which I'm not sure I'll be able to replicate.

Ian - even if you can't complete the planned mileage for the next 3 weeks you've had a very good consistent period of training.

Rest that leg, hopefully the niggle will clear up as quickly as it came.

Still on target weight wise?

That’s bad news Ian. Fingers crossed it clears up soon.

Had a nice day out today - walked the mile to the harbour, took a boat to Brixham, and then walked back along the coast path, for a 8 mile, hilly wall in total. Took it steady with plenty of stops for tea, ice cream or just to enjoy the view. Tigg enjoyed it too :)

Big G - does Tigg have to pay for the boat ride?

Short run, 3 miles, legs still sluggish but I kept strictly to Hadd today so it didn't feel so hard. Had to walk most of the last hill to keep HR down but it is long steady climb. Nice morning, bit humid.

Shades, no he doesn’t pay. He does get lots of attention though. There’s a thing called a ‘lurcher lean’, where lurchers have a tendency to lean against a nearby friendly-looking person, so we had to be wary of that on the boat! Although in fairness, most people don’t seem to mind being leaned on by him. Glad you managed to get out and you were able to keep the HR under control a bit today.

7 miles for me today, on the flat, and had a nice run. Trotters are doing an ‘away run’ this evening on a route I happen to do a fair bit (they’re doing it in reverse). I’m no longer a run leader for the club but I led a run on this route a few years ago for them, and it is very nice - a steep climb off-road, but awarded with probably the best views of the bay. They’re stopping for fish and chips afterwards so I’m going along, for around 6miles. Haven’t done a double for ages but foot feels like it can handle it so all being well it’ll be fine.

Big G - Tigg deserves the attention. I always find the 'lurcher lean' a sign of affection. I guess in a large dog it replaces wanting to sit on a person's lap.

Will be nice for you to be back out for a run with the Trotters, I guess the fish and chips is an added incentive 😋

Are you planning to recommence runs with the Motley Crew too?

Decided to take today off, can't run tomorrow anyway so means a couple of days rest, will see how it's feeling on Wednesday then.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
