Wow Big G, that's a great improvement in that mile pace. It's funny how HR training is like that, you would expect a gradual improvement but one day there's a big jump, most impressive. I'd love to do Lap of the Gap marathon again, lovely marathon and a beautiful part of the country. |

Hi @Shades I’ve just seen this thread. I contacted you in 2010 after I read something about your 3 runs a week plan - must have been RW. You kindly shared it, I followed it and ran 4 hours 23 min at the Geneva marathon in 2011 (my first marathon) - I was delighted. Three runs a week felt manageable and following the programme gave me confidence. Thank you so much!

Shades-Yes it was definitely a shock to the legs, and the heart also, positive though as no after effects from the race in terms of niggles etc.

WP - yes, Wicklow mountains. Me at a drink station during Glendalough Lap of the Gap marathon. Fabulous event, I want to do it again, my back isn't up to the downhills right now but it's on the list. (There's a half too 😉) @Suse thank you. I'm so pleased your first marathon went so well and you enjoyed the training. Are you still running marathons? Ian - any discomfort from the shoulder when you were racing? |

Shades-Nothing at all and just the usual ache today.I was hoping it would be OK as it's only sore when it's above shoulder height now,and I don't swing my arms that much, but obviously couldn't be certain until it happened.

That's good Ian. No high fives to the kids/supporters in your next marathon. It might hurt. |

Didn't think about that, just low fives instead 😅 7 after work, legs still a little sore, mainly quads so I may have hammered the downs a bit more than I realised.Nice low HR anyway and pace wasn't too bad overall. |

I messaged Cal a bit earlier. She’s hoping to make a return to the thread in due course although her injuries aren’t any better at the moment. Arrived in Ross on Wye and it’s a nice site, although it wasn’t a great journey. What should have been a 2.5hr journey ended up being 4.5hrs but we’re here, set up and looking forward to the weekend. |

Ian - I hate high fives. At one marathon, think it was Florence this spectator high fived me far too hard and really hurt my shoulder so I decline now. Crass American habit anyway. Big G - that's a typical M5 on a Friday once the kids break up. Don't I know it. Glad you're finally there, enjoy your weekend. My friend is travelling to Paris today by Eurostar, just hope she gets there in time to see her goddaughter swim in her heat tomorrow. Bloody vandals. |
