I drove down to the park for my run today,8 laps gave me just over 18m.Felt pretty good for the most part, little tired the last uphill mile but overall pretty consistent pacing and effort.

Rob - Thats not true there is not a high link between food and my races ;) For instance i have NEVER done Cornish marathon despite knowing full well you get a giant pasty for finishing. There are races where there is a bonus of food/drink being part of it or the race is at a brewery/distillery and as several of those are local it's likely i'd do the race anyway.

Ian - great training.

Keith - amazing you've never done the Cornish marathon considering you were a local lad.

But you used to come down to visit family, ran quite a few events down here. But obviously not in November.

BTW it's not a giant pasty just a regular size one, very good though.

Shades 860s seem to be a stability shoe, they must have been heavily reduced as a random purchase. They look fast šŸ˜

Ian nice relief no ill effects from the bump.

Keith Iā€™ve done a Saxon shore event, it was a cakeathon! So many cakes it was amazing! Did Atlantic coast challenge, 3 marathons and a regular pasty from the shop I was a 5 min walk away from, bit of a let down.

Big G I thought I was going mad when my post saved, I had got used to copying them if I flicked back a page.

WP hope the sensible training will mean youā€™ll recover quickly.

Looks like Stevenage marathon has sold out, youā€™ve all been saved for another 10 years. I only entered FVC Yeaterday, in 2022 they debited me twice, I had Covid and the weather was hot so they deferred everyone to 2023 if they didnā€™t turn up, I emailed asking if they would give my 2nd payment a place for this year so now in. The route has changed at the start, need to have a look next week, think I know the way itā€™s diverted.

City to Sea marathon used to include fish and chips from what is arguably the best chippy in Torquay, a short walk from the finish at Babbacombe. A charity used to organise the event and Iā€™m presuming the chippy was involved in that somehow as fish and chips are not included now itā€™s organised by a company, although I see a pasty is now included.

Rob - it the shoes look fast then that'll have the right effect on you. Somewhere I have the list of what all the NB shoe codes mean, cushioned/stability etc.

Re food, at DD you are plied at the finish with infinite mountains of sandwiches, cakes etc.
At the IOM marathon there's a free buffet for runners at the finish. There wasn't much left the last time I ran IOM as I was slow but enough to fill that immediate post race hunger.

IOM is getting closer, email from EasyJet yesterday telling me check in is open šŸ˜²

That's great news about Stevenage marathon, especially to fill this early. I expect that was a surprise for a lot of runners.

Good you've got your entry sorted for FVC.

WP - hope you're feeling better today.

7 miles today, cooler, only 10 degrees when I went out. It did warm up in the sun, good running conditions as humidity down to high 80's today.

Big G - I suppose fish and chips would add a big chunk to the entry fee now.

Fish and chips OH likes them as a treat but Ā£15 last time he went with friends.I think our local chippy it is Ā£9.

Local steam train is offering 90 minute ride and fish and chips Ā£40 OH fancies that but as I said the veggie option would be a lot cheaper yet charged the same.So I think we will go for just the steam train ride.

I love all these races with food at the finish .We have nothing like that near me.

Ian Glad all okay after fall and decent miles!
Rob: Great news shoes look fast and on the marathon a bit quirky only every ten years,

Shades : Not long to go and training is going well for you.

I am happy to report RHR dropped +5 this morning so opted for a short and faster run or as fast as legs wanted to run around rec just 3 miles.I have race Sunday which was up in the air but think is looking hopeful.
It is a hilly and usually hot 10k passed two years I had Covid just before or just after race and had a shocker. As long as I beat both those times I will be happy.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
