WP - annoying about your RHR, do you wake up feeling stressed or do you feel a bit poorly? Base training is definitely what you need to stick to for the next few weeks.
At first I thought it was a dead seagull but then I saw it's feet! This was on a busy road, it must have strayed some distance to get there.

Shades-It's the same for me,even if I only have a few minutes spare I sneak 1 or 2 in,everything helps I guess.I just don't want the last 20 odd miles to be ruined. It usually closes at the start of September,I'd guess Sep 7th this year, ideally I'd love 1 end/July then last weekend in August for 2 bites but might be pushing it. Longford is looking a possibility, presume you have done that 1?

Keith Enjoy your time in Manchester
Shades I feel tired not stressed but I do have stress with OH on a daily basis and I doubt that is going to change so I have to manage it better but sadly he finds new ways to cause stress .Base training it will be and take each day as it comes.

Ian - I'm very fond of Longford. The Irish use Longford for Boston qualifying times.
I've done the ultra 4 times and the marathon 4 times. It is flat, I think circa 400ft? it can be warm though. Lovely event and easy to get to, bus direct from airport or you can go into Dublin and take the train. I don't think there's much difference in travel time, train or bus.

Shades, Ian and I will be in the same category. For 2026, it’s 3:20, but I’ll need to be under that by an unknown amount. Possibly 3:17 could be enough. But Valencia would be my target, which would then be for 2027s race. I’m saying all this but I know it’s in the balance if it’ll happen, or even if I can get close! But it’s nice to be even able to think in that way, which I haven’t for the last 2+ years.
Ian, yes, I’m a long way off. But if I do get 3:30 at Seville it’ll be a springboard at least. In my mind, I’ve got Valencia in December lined up, but we shall see how the year pans out. Similarly to you, after Seville, I’ll be getting back out on the hills and hopefully remain consistent with the mileage for DD. Then all being well maintain the fitness, have a good autumn and then hopefully it’ll all come together for Valencia. Obviously there are lots of steps in that plan, and nothing is certain!

WP - stress can easily raise your RHR so perhaps choosing a different time of day to take your RHR may be a better indicator of health/virus issues. Or just to use your own judgement. Or just to ignore RHR completely, lots of runners don't take any notice of their RHR.
I have a friend that can't use her waking RHR as she says she always wakes with a start which sends her RHR sky high.

Big G - that's a very achievable target for you at Valencia.

I never thought of ignoring RHR as I have always done it that way best part of 20 years. But I always listen to my body so will do that .

WP - I think your RHR is giving you unreliable info and perhaps causing you unnecessary angst.
