Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

That’s frustrating Shades. It doesn’t look too bad here, but I won’t know for sure until I go to the bottom of the steps here.

I did forget to mention something. On Wednesday I was chatting to a club mate on the warm up and he was asking me how I was getting on, as he knew I’d had PF. He asked me if there was anything else going on in my life that was causing me stress through that time, and of course it was Dad. On the way home, I remembered being very stressed for Belfast marathon in 2022 - I literally got a call from Dad’s carers as my wheels hit the tarmac off the ferry in Northern Ireland. And the day after I got home from Belfast, I woke up and had bad PF. He died in August 2024 and then really from October/November times it’s been pretty good, and this year so far very good.

Probably just a coincidence, but it was an interesting thought that I’d not even considered. Not suggesting the PF was all down to this other stress at all as I must have had some issue there anyway, but as I say not something I’d ever thought of in terms or stress like that contributing to a physical problem/injury. Probably it was a combination of many things, but what I am curious about is a) how it seemed to come on pretty much overnight in May 2022 and b) how/why it went so quickly after really struggling on/off for over 2 years with it. And that 2+ year period pretty much aligns with the very stressful period of all that as going on with Dad. I’ll never know if this other stress was actually a factor of the PF, of course, but again I just found it interesting in terms of the overlapping time period.

You watch, I’ve said all that, and I’ll go and get it again now!

I think stress really does affect in more ways than we know.It maybe a combination who knows for sure.

Shades Sorry to hear about ice especially on LSR day!

No ice here so I can get out for a run :) I will as always listen to my body and see how far we get.

Big G - I've decided to take a rest day today now. I've already had the experience this week of ice free in one area and less than half a mile down the road, impassable due to ice so am not going to risk it. It's only 3 degrees here with a 'feels like' of -1 and not due to get any warmer for a few hours yet.

I'm not so sure on stress and being injured. Stress could slow recovery in some folk but as with all stress it depends how they react to stress and being tense could certainly reflect on recovery from physical injuries. I don't believe that one injury such as PF is more prone to stress than any other type of injury.

Don't get PF again 😉

I'm not a stressed type of person and even less cause for stress in the last few years and I've had more injuries and for a prolonged period than in the last 30 years of marathon running.

I have managed to order some salt tablets from Decathlon this morning, they had been out of stock. Also some of their own zero carb electrolyte tabs, just in case I ever do a long run again,🤣 good price, 20 for £6.74, there's 10% discount if you order more than one item.

Yeah, I’ve had loads of injuries too, not stress-related, and wasn’t suggesting it was anything specific about PF in particular. Who knows.

Anyway, 6.5 miles today, and had a nice run. Sun was out, tide was out and bay looking superb, if a bit blustery. A bit less mileage this week, as it is 47 for the week.

Big G - 47 is another good week for you.

There's no wind here which is probably why the frost set in. Sun is out now so hope it'll dry up today, very cold still although I've only been out to put the rubbish out.

At some time could you let me know your other spring races after Seville. I can't imagine you've nothing else planned before DD.🤣

Talking of Seville, I haven’t received my race corral details yet, although others have. You may remember I won my place, so I hope everything is fine with my entry! No one has received race number info yet so maybe mine all comes together with that but I’ve emailed them today to see what is happening.

What a lovely morning when the winds died down about 5 degrees and I managed 5+ miles.I can still feel the calf even after all this time but a dull ache rather than stabbing pains.
I am hoping this is the week I can crack on a little.
21 miles last week as this is start of my new week,

WP - good run.

I don't think there's much difference between brands when it comes to the zero tabs. Bit of bicarb, salt, potassium etc and and some flavouring.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
