Just a quick post as my Mac is rather iffy at the moment (must be sulking because I've ordered a new one)
HS Well done for your solo forest run on Thursday in the wind and rain, and for yesterday's parkrun. I'm sorry to hear about Sarah's son, I hope he recovers quickly.

WtnMel Good to know HI is a better bet than PI, I'll bear that in mind for the future.

0061 Glad to hear all is well with daughter and grandson, strangely enough I nearly did Ashington yesterday, but opted for Chopwell instead.
Now have my new iPhone but it's been very stressful transferring all my "stuff" from my old iPhone to this new one as my old one was completely dead. To cut a long story short a visit to a nice lady in the Apple shop got me up and running. She managed to transfer most of my "stuff" to my new phone, but as I hadn't backed up my old phone recently I lost a few things, my fault entirely. My new MacBook will be arriving in the next couple of days, I'm hoping for an easier set up with that.

Thanks Aquarius, I'll be running with Sarah tomorrow, so I will ask her how he is.

That's good, getting a new iPhone. I've only got one more installment to pay on my Galaxy, so am trying to decide whether to get a new one, or keep it a bit longer. I buy my phones from o2 in Southampton, and always ask them to do the transfer for me. There is a shop in the village which specialises in mobile phones and they do transfers, problem solving etc. They also have a range of phones, accessories etc.

Good luck with the new MacBook when it arrives. I received an email from BT yesterday advising that my landline would soon be transferred to on line. It might not be for another 12 months, but they will provide more information in due course. I don't use my landline much and am thinking that I might do without it when the time comes, and rely on my mobile, which I use to make all my calls.

This morning I did a solo 3.26 miles on roads.

Finally, I have time to catch up properly .. some good training going on from everyone I see.

Hillstrider - I mentioned the MOT and two new front tyres. An unexpected bonus was them having valeted the car, which saved me having to wash it! :) Like you, I drive a lot less miles these days - the only 'long' drives are when we go on holiday. For what it's worth, when my Samsung came to the end of the contract (I was with Vodafone), I just moved over to Asda Mobile (who run on the same Vodafone network anyway) and at £5 a month, it was far cheaper then Vodafone (£17 a month at the time). A slight amount of 'fiddling' required - getting a new contract and someone to transfer everything would be far less hassle! Re the BT transfer to a digital landline, the main thing that's been pointed out is during a power cut, the landline would continue working and would negate the need to always have plenty of charge on your mobile. But the warning was mostly relevant for older people who don't have a mobile.

OO61 - congrats on becoming a grandad. I considered an electric or hybrid when buying my new car - but couldn't justify the extra cost to myself. You mentioned 'Shokz bone conducting headphones and those are what I thought my Mum could use to help her hear better. Much less fiddly for her than hearing aids. I would just need to find some sort of microphone she could wear around her neck to pair with them. I think a Schokz/microphone combo like that would be easy for her to use.

Aquarius - having had the MOT done, it won't be long until the service is due. I have a 'service plan' I signed up for when I got the car. I pay for my servicing upfront by around £20 a month and then get (cough) 'free' services and MOT's (not really!!). Sorry to hear various things are breaking down. I see you've ordered a new Mac, so I hope you get on okay transferring everything across. But I see you were able to get some help moving things from your old phone to your new one though, which was good news.

Re the chat about cd's and music generally, glad to say (fingers crossed) my 'classic' ipod is still going strong. All my cd's are in the loft, but I've 'ripped' the music onto my laptop into iTunes and from there, loaded them onto my ipod. I keep the cd's in case there is ever a time when my laptop crashes and I have to rip the music onto the new machine. I can plug the ipod into the car audio via either of the two usb sockets. But I have also downloaded some of the music onto my phone. The new car uses Android Auto in the in-car system which allows me to access phone apps like Samsung Music (self-explanatory), Podcast Addict (podcasts), Waze (satnav) and Whatsapp (so I can see any new messages whilst driving). Android Auto also allows me to make/receive phone calls hands-free, but I keep them to an absolute minimum.

Re the Holiday Inn in Aylesbury, as I said, it is far nicer than the Premier Inn in Tring. I checked and it is also cheaper on the next two dates I plan to see my Mum, so I've pre-booked them already. I'll keep an eye on the PI website and if the prices drop dramatically, I'll book there instead. But somehow, I doubt that will happen! Holiday Inn also have a loyalty scheme where each stay earns points - I expect I will need a squillion points to get a 'free' stay, but it's better then nothing.

Talking of things breaking down, I went to use our lawnmower yesterday and it is kaput. We've had it a few years so we decided it's not worth trying to get mended and I've ordered a new one via click & collect .. hopefully, I'll get a message tomorrow to say it's ready for collection.

WtnMel, my garage valet the car with the service and MoT which are done at the same time in December.

My mum had a "panic alarm" which probably wouldn't have worked under the proposed new set up. BT highlighted this, advising that customers notify them accordingly.

I'm amazed that your iPod is still working. Mine conked out several years ago.

I've probably mentioned before that I used to live in Aylesbury, and my daughter still lives there.

A good decision to get a new lawnmower. Repairs can be expensive, and probably not last very long. How will you dispose of the old one?

I had a 12k (7.46 miles) forest run this morning with Sarah F. The forest has nearly dried up now, but leaving what was deep, wet muddy ground churned up by cattle, rock hard pitted mud. We had to walk over those stretches, to avoid putting our feet in "pot holes

My ipod only work when plugged in as the battery has died. I'll have to check if it connects to my car so thanks.
Wtnmel I bought a car 18 months old and trade-in my old one. But yes a new hybrid would have been out of my comfort zone on cost.
Glad the forest running is improving hillstrider- do take care on rough stuff.
I have a 3000m track race tonight.

Hillstrider - yes, I remember you saying you used to live in Aylesbury. The traffic got so bad in Aylesbury town centre, I stopped driving through it and nowadays take a 'scenic' route to Thame via several small villages (Great Kimble, Longwick). I remember that panic alarms don't work under the new BT setup. To be fair, my ipod doesn't get that much use - that may be why it's still going! I've just got rid of the old lawnmower (and a bunch of other 'stuff') at our local recycling centre. I can well imagine the rutted tracks you now have to contend with in the forest instead of the squelchy mud.

OO61 - if your car has a usb socket, I would hope your in-car system will work with your ipod okay. Hope last night's 3000m race went okay.

As mentioned, just been to the local recycling centre. I'm glad they've kept the pre-booking system as with a limit on numbers, it makes it a lot easier to find spaces to park while you unload.

My left foot is giving me a bit of gyp and after yesterday's 9 holes of golf, my left knee wasn't happy either (no doubt due to me limping a bit towards the end of the game). But it seems better today. But I've pre-warned Alan the golf may not happen on Friday if it's still not 100%

WtnMel, very wise giving Aylesbury town centre a miss.

It's good that you still have a recycling centre. We have one in Marchwood, but it is quite possible that it could soon be shut down. There used to be one in Holbury, but that was closed many years ago. I believe that Marchwood no longer have the pre booking facility, but I'm not sure. It was definitely much easier with the booking, as I can remember several years ago, cars queuing from both directions to get in. Not surprising so much fly tipping.

I'm sorry to hear that your left foot is still playing up, and also now your knee. I hope that they will be 100% by Friday, so that you can have your golf match on Friday with Alan.

No Farmers Walk this morning, as I drove into the village for a haircut. Whilst there, I decided to buy a pair of sunglasses from my optician, to wear whilst running.

This morning was a 5.19 mile forest run with Sarah H and Karen, including 5 x 100 and 200 metres with 30 seconds recoveries, and 4 x 400 metres with 60 seconds recoveries, on the gravel trail.
