@Ian5 - we do and that is the purpose of a community fridge - to redistribute the food that would be wasted that is often after the BBD. We also run a soup kitchen and a once a week community cafe and we are blessed to receive far more food than we can use.

I am trying to understand the reason for getting charities to manage the waste produce from the farmer's field (and this is a lot) and why not fund initiatives to help entrepreneurs develop a business that uses the waste produce?

Have sorted it in my head now. The large charities are the business to make it happen.

Still sounds a bit bonkers though - are charities really supposed to create significant food processing and distribution agencies to run in parallel with (and in competition with) the commercial sector?

That is why I was questioning this. But then thought the amount of waste produced from the whole food supply chain is significant. Perhaps the large food charities like the Felix Project and Fareshare may division this into some sort of business. Produce different types of jams and pickles and create a brand logo like "nay waste" and offer as an ethical brand. Potentially partnerships could be created with smaller charities and employment opportunities are created.

Our CF is only just handling the food waste from supermarkets in our area. We received one tonne of produce from the supermarkets for Christmas. And even with loads of advertising only 80 people came in, though happily left with at least 10 kg of fresh produce. 15 crates of produce left over of mainly bread. And this could be another business - making bread pudding and spaetzle. We have sent 100s of Kgs of bread to animal feed.

Anyone interested in developing a food business to reduce food waste and would have the base materials free?

I am reading a fascinating and well written book right now albeit on two idealogies I am fundamentally not in tune with. It’s about the IRAs attempt to kill thatcher. It brings back a lot of memories from my younger years but also gives some insight into the thinking both in the IRA, the Government and the Police

I was telling my son about it yesterday and he didnt even know there had been an attempt on thatchers life and indeed a large part of the government of the day

Lolliing at the Tories trying to label Khans knighthood as a reward for failure. Remember the last Tory London mayor? The illegal water cannons, the ridiculous unbuilt garden bridge, they rewarded him by making him party leader, they'd probably be better off keeping their traps shut

Khan fully deserves his knighthood.

As does Southgate.

We're a country hall-full of glass half-empty knobs.
