On the flip side Thangam Debbonaire. Both sides seem perfect at rewarding failures on said gravy train.

I have to admit to schadenfreude when they lost they're seat. They were out of touch and cruising thinking they could half ass into a minister job |

Mandleson was EU trade commissioner and experienced political player so I think a decent pick. Also Trumps team don't like him that much (a good sign).

Can someone help me out here. Our elected UK govt wants to give away grants to charities to reduce farm food being wasted: bbc.com "The scheme aims to help those groups secure new equipment - like hoppers and balers - or to train staff and set up new technology so they can get food that would be wasted to those who need it most." I presume the charities that have been campaigning for this have large warehouses. Having now operated a community fridge (CF) for 2 years and this year collected 24 tonnes of food to give away (roughly would feed 12,000 people for a day if a person eats on ave 2kg/day): 1. A significant proportion of people who might "need" that food will not eat that food 2. The homeless only want cooked food 3. Charities, food banks and homeless shelters already receive a lot of produce that even they have to waste that food. Between the 3 CF in my area we try to shift food around between us and even then we are unable to use it within the time frame. Our food banks do not want "expired" food..... becos the package says it is after the Best Before Date The sorting of food is labour intensive or requires expensive machinery. It will also require the charities to have large warehouse facilities and a lot of man power. I wonder if the funds should be given to entrepreneurs to run an idea to turn the waste into a business. Creates more jobs and promotes the circular economy. |

Run Free-Why wouldn't a charity want food that is past its BBD? The vast vast majority of food after BB is perfectly fine for a long time.Peoples misunderstanding of the difference between Use By and Best Before is a big part of the reason why too much food is thrown away in this country.

Good. Fighting amongst themselves might take up some of the bandwidth that they might have used to enact some of the batshit “policies” they want. Useful idiots. |
