Can't find anything saying this and a Google search suggests their manifesto pledged to keep it? Apologies maybe I've got this wrong. I saw somewhere they'd pledged to scrap it. But I should have checked. |

It might have been him where I saw it on Bluesky (people need to stop using the musk misinformation channel). I've mixed up the 2024 manifesto with the fact it was in the 2017 one. |

It's bog standard politics unfortunately. The very same Tories who are painting themselves as the voice of the WFA advocacy movement also campaigned under the 2017 manifesto with a pledge to means test it. They're free to say "we've changed our minds" I suppose, but it is galling that they are doing their advocacy with such a holier than though approach.

Can't really criticise the Tories here. That was 7 years ago and their 2024 manifesto was clear. 7 years ago Labour would have probably done exactly what the Tories are doing now. Presumably the analysis that Sunak is referring to from 2017 exists precisely for that reason.

I could see a Dorries or a Truss or a Rees-Mogg getting away with backing the lunatic with the orange face, but even if privately they have a principled reason for not backing the Dems, surely the best answer to save face here is that as someone looking to be a PM in waiting if elected as leader of the opposition, it wouldn't be right for them to say who they would prefer as president.
