The last few years have given the press the thought that we're never far from a leadership crisis. Whatever their political bent, chaos creates stories and stories sell newspapers / advertising, so the press and commentators have got a vested interest in making things "interesting".

Also people were generally happy with Labour at the time, who knows if Brown had called an election immediately and had 4 years to go when we had the financial crisis, he might have steadied the shop and got another term.

No need for an apology. The interesting thing is the independent was a trusted source of news and the Daily Mail isn't, but if you haven't followed the changes you may still believe it's to be trusted. I guess the same may also apply the independent itself now. |

It was at complete loggerheads to how the original print newspaper built its reputation. |
