I'm interpreting "daft" as being "not significant enough".

Of course, it's a complete pre-cursor to a proper ban as it won't be practical to only be selling fags to those over 34 at some point, then later 37 etc etc. It will be (should be) a ban which prevents under 25s smoking over a number of years, followed by a ban or tax strategy which makes it highly difficult to buy cigarettes and eventually the market just collapsing.

But assuming the age of sale rises to 19 in 2027, and increases by one year every year after that, the proportion of the population below the age of sale will reach 30% in 2035, 40% in 2044 and 50% in 2053.
Even HS2 will be finished by then!

I can imagine 40 year olds showing ID and buying 600 gaspers for their fresh-faced 39 year old mates.

It’s a choice thing. I quoted demolition man. Slippery slope etc.

At least I’m being consistent. If you support the eventual ban you should support the outdoor ban.

If you support people having choice and not banning then you should be against the outdoor ban.

The common form of the quotation (apparently it's a bit variable as it was based on various speeches)"

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Can't they come for the Man City supporters first?

Just trying to make a helpful suggestion.

Name-calling will be called out, and Ad hominem will be frowned upon. :-) And whatabout-ery sits somewhere above responding to tone and below contradiction.
