Okay. Next question.

Are we happy to put a man who cuts keys for a fiver in charge of the prisons?!

Known for advocating the employment of former prisoners, he was the Chair of the Employers Forum for Reducing Re-offending (EFFRR) until 2016, and became Chair of the Prison Reform Trust that same year. He also founded the Employment Advisory Board network across the prison estate, which links prisons with employers to improve the employment opportunities for ex-offenders upon release.

That guy?

The Prison Reform Trust carries out research on all aspects of prison. Recent studies include: prisoners' views on prison education, the mental health needs of women prisoners, older prisoners, prisoner councils, foreign national prisoners, prisoner votes, and a report into how sentencers make the decision to imprison offenders.

Gavin Williamson could do *so* much better.

JB beat me to it. I think Timpson is an excellent choice to oversee Prisons.

Sorry, it was a flippant, non-serious question. I understand his record of employing ex-offenders.

I’d be more concerned if you put a homeopathy salesman in charge of the NHS … and then moved them on to be chancellor

I did wonder :-)

People on X are recommending listening to his interview with James O’Brien on the Full Disclosure podcast. Disclaimer - I’ve not listed yet myself…

Fair enough.

I just think people should arm themselves with a fact base before shooting from the lip as per.

And consider this: a person with a long track record of commitment to an area of public life vs a here today gone tomorrow guy on the Tory minister merry go round.

11 ministers since 2016... Coincidentally the prison system is about to bust right open.

X is joking that they’ve put a guy who cuts keys to order in charge of the prisons :-)

Unconventional way of doing things but it does make a lot of sense. Maybe a bit of resentment from MPs who thought they might get a job in the cabinet.

Let’s see how it works out.

Anything has to be better than the system that gave us Gavin Williamson and Grant Shapps as ministers. My dog would have been a better ministerial appointment than those two. And Dorries. And Grayling. And IDS. And Mogg. The list is endless.

Name-calling will be called out, and Ad hominem will be frowned upon. :-) And whatabout-ery sits somewhere above responding to tone and below contradiction.
