I don't think Starmer can quite get *enough* of experts

I'd settle for a group of experts in their relevant disciplines running the country.

Experts don’t have any particular insight into policy priorities. They are (should be!) an important component in the decision making process of course. |

@jda the Tories claimed they didn't need any 'experts'.

There's a strong case for preferring an expert for, say, Defence Minister. As opposed to a fireplace salesman. |

I don't have a problem with politicians setting priorities and policies. That's what we elect them for. I do have a problem when politicians of all stripes are appointed to decision making roles in areas where they have limited knowledge and/or insight and consider themselves qualified to make decisions. Give me experts over self appointed "I don't need to listen to experts know-it-alls any day. |

So we've got someone who has worked tirelessly on prison reform and rehabilitation, a civil servant scientist and a well respected barrister in roles dealing with prisons, science and law. I reckon that makes more sense than simply appointing and MP with an interest in it which means policy will be well informed from the start. Surely that's got to be good, jda? Not every minister or SoS, but injecting some expertise at the top is definitely good from my perspective. |

Starmer has made one of the top KCs in the land his attorney general. Starmer has made one of the top scientists in the land his science minister. This is how to run a government, actual experts |
