Farage won't campaign for PR, he knows his only chance is FPTP leading the Tories. He just likes to moan. PR would involve other parties coming together to ensure he never becomes prime minister (as the Dutch have done to Wilders) and he knows that.

Disgusted to see farage was at an event just over a mile from my home today, prompting BBC NW to do vox pops in my home town about him, with a few praising him as a patriot etc etc. Feels oddly personal to know that there'll be local faces proudly declaring their support for him and his bigotry.

Can anyone who watched the Qt nonsense this evening confirm that Sunak said that anyone who refuses to do national service will have access to finance products restricted? Seriously? Just what? This is the self- proclaimed party of supposed free speech and freedom of expression. I'm not even sure how that is supposed to work. Obviously it's never going to happen, but just, really? |

Larkim, I felt that way about the overwhelming Torbay vote for Brexit. Felt I didn’t fit in as I was walking down the road with my Dutch girlfriend, who was reduced to tears the morning the outcome of the vote was announced. She’s been in Britain 15+ years but can’t vote this GE. Ann Widdecombe (not related to me, different spelling of surname, I feel I need to add!) was doing a couple of talks around where I live I think and again social media seemed to be praising her. In my very, very quick, very unscientific straw poll, it seems to be more people prising her than not. I don’t get it. Changing the subject, I learned something yesterday talking to a German chap whilst on holiday here. He was saying that Germany is behind on internet/fibre rollout which, he said, is why credit card machines aren’t as ubiquitous here, which I found surprising. A quick Google suggests U.K. is ahead in this regard, and for whatever reason take up is also slow in Germany, which again I found surprising. |

I'm guessing in the UK, by the incumbent gov, fibre etc is seen as an easier way for companies to gather cash from punters hence the investment.

@rf_fozzy that's what it sounded like he said but when questioned by FB he denied that. From what I could gather the idea of National Service has been agreed but other than that nothing else has been set on stone - basically they don't have any clue how they will manage it yet

He also said joining the armed forces was going to be voluntary (if I remember rightly) and was talking about St John's etc and how that can help

Thanks for the clarification MM. So basically the Tories come out with a bat shit, regressive 'policy' designed to hook in votes with no idea how it works work and are already contradicting themselves before the fact. I thought Johnson had left government? |
