You make weapons (and then export them) and you can’t be surprised with the results. It’s not an industry I can understand having any motivation to be involved in.

Inactivists will always come up with arguments for the status quo. It’s too difficult, if we stopped sending arms someone else would send more, oh you are just too naive to understand this complex situation, blah blah. You can understand people being put off by such arguments.

And simplists will always come up with simple solutions to complex problems that will magically solve the issue if only x did this one thing.

I'm not arguing for inaction. I'm arguing that the prevailing view that trump is better for the Palestinian people because he "promised peace" is a stupid argument when you look at all the evidence.

If your answer to anything is “Donald Trump” then you should be asking a different question. There has never been a situation that he hasn’t made worse. Ever.

Anyway Kennedy got the quid pro quo he wanted when he endorsed trump. Now doubt someone will come along and said democrats should have done more to get his support by promising something to get the single issue anti-vaxx voters on board with their campaign.

In other news: new anti labour left wing group/party that looks an awful lot like the previous anti labour left wing groups/parties to be set up with the same usual people running it: theguardian.com

He will bring peace to Gaza by ensuring that Israel gets everything it wants more quickly, meaning the total destruction of Gaza. He will bring peace to Ukraine by ensuring that Russia gets to keep half of the country, and can simply wait a while before grabbing the rest.

Yeah, the peace candidate.

Because anti-vaxx is a legitimate stance worthy of consideration in the same way as stopping genocide in Gaza and we should be getting rid of vaccines?

Is this what we call bad faith arguments?

Trump is extreme and I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but when it comes to their want to reduce spending on Ukraine, perhaps the European nations should be contributing more instead of standing at the side lines bleating about how US, which puts in by far the lions share of support, is looking to reduce that contribution.

We complain about the free market society in the US which results in the global position it enjoys and then we whine that it is not underwriting Europe's more socially democratic extensive welfare and government support by being the protective blanket we need because very few nations meet the percentage GDP spending on its own defense.

The reason America is thought to be capable of ending the war is that Reagan pretty much managed it in the 80s. Details here: responsiblestatecraft.org

BUT - it's impossible to know if a similar method would work here. I suspect Israel is hellbent on doing what they want anyway, and similar actions wouldn't bring them to heel, as Netanyahu is more extreme than Begin. There is no simple answer to fixing it. It's a mess. But yes if you are fed up with one side's actions and feel they are supporting the genocide, then you are bound to vote for any alternative.

And yes I'd argue Gaza is indisputably worse off under Trump. Ukraine on the other hand may not be, they're already talking of giving them the long range missiles the EU has been dragging their feet on. The budget will be slashed ultimately I'm sure. Putin's problem is he is caught in a giant pincer movement between China (who he is ceding rights to in Siberia) and the US who are now as unpredictable as f**k.

It's worth noting that years of US foreign policy have enjoyed the influence a major contributor to international defence and order brings. If they want stable/favourable trade, permanent global bases and wage foreign wars to protect their interests, they also need to be seen as good guy global cops. What they are doing is not really charity - it's very much inline with their superpower agenda (or imperialism as detractors would have it).

Trump wants more of course, if he can convince others to push the same international agenda that he wants without him having to spend as much money, it's a transactional win for him.

Got something to say?
